Position Summary
The Environmental Engineer will act as a technical project manager for all aspects of environmental compliance. This position will be responsible for coaching, mentoring, and working with others in a way that achieves the goal of maintaining compliance with all applicable environmental rules and regulations. Regular and clear communication with all stakeholders is expected, including but not limited to field personnel, EHS personnel, and the organization’s leadership. The individual should be flexible enough to complete the technical work when time permits but have strong project management skills to delegate and managers others to complete these tasks. This position is also expected to help develop, implement, and maintain area or companywide programs to ensure compliance. Candidates must have an expert understanding of applicable rules and regulations in order to manage this compliance. The position will report to the Director of Environmental and will be located in downtown Houston, TX. Level and salary commensurate with experience.
Essential Job Functions
Serve as primary environmental contact to an assigned geographical area within the Company
Perform and review technical work to ensure compliance with environmental requirements
Communicate with internal stakeholders, including field operations and organizational leadership to meet compliance requirements
Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of programs, systems, and procedures to ensure compliance with environmental requirements
Recommend improvements in processes, management systems, procedures, and operating equipment to optimize environmental compliance requirements
Work with others to respond to and investigate environmental incidents such as spills, releases, notice of violations (NOV’s), and complaints
Prepare and conduct employee training and emergency preparedness
Provide basic regulatory interpretations and technical advice to operating assets utilizing effective communication techniques
Develop and maintain working knowledge of existing and proposed environmental regulations
Assist with due diligence on possible and current merger and acquisition activities
Act as environmental lead on audits
Maintain environmental records
Assist in project tracking, cost management and entering data into the Asset and Compliance Tracking System (ACTS) database

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering or a related degree
5 years of related environmental experience
Possess basic working knowledge of oil and gas exploration and production technologies
Knowledge of environmental laws - including but not limited to Clean Air Act (CAA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA), Clean Water Act (CWA), and various state environmental laws
Knowledge of Oil and Gas processes and equipment
Strong knowledge of MS Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
Must have advanced mathematical, science and analytical abilities
Must possess effective written and oral communication skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced and fluid environment; flexible with the demands of a growing company
Ability to meet deadlines
Ability to prepare written communications, present information to others, enter data into various programs
Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, superiors, vendors, and regulators
Must be willing to travel
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment including a computer, stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions, strength to lift and carry files weighing up to 10 pounds, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone

Professional Engineer (PE) License
