What are the responsibilities and job description for the Legal Secretary position at Chris Karpan Law?
Overview
Are you a sparkling over-qualified fish in a small pond? Every rural community has people who are here for one reason or another but could be doing almost anything…anywhere. If that’s you, I want you to work for me. I am a sole practitioner, specializing in criminal defense law. That’s all I do. I am lucky enough to have an exceedingly high number of clients, and I work very hard to provide every single one with quality representation. I need a candidate who can handle a million things at once, is proficient in Word and can learn the legal software program I use. Significant organization skills are a must, largely because I don’t have them. I’m very good at what I do, but every professional is only as good as the support network that keeps the wheels turning.
We’re going to hit it hard and problem solve every day. Be prepared to laugh at some cases and cry at others. My clients are wonderful people and you will be part of the kindness they need at a very scary time. My tag line is “Get Some Peace of Mind” and that’s what we provide – I can’t do it alone.
I’ll pay more than the average in town; we can discuss that. If you want to hit the gym or go for a walk at lunch every day, have at it. I’ve found that people who love their job don’t need to punch a clock and if you pull your weight, there will be bonuses and benefits. If you show up and phone it in, it won’t work out.
Legal experience would be nice, but not necessarily a deal breaker. If you’ve been in jail, you’ll get bonus points. I’m kidding…kind of, but life experience matters. If you’re a reader and have a gift with words, you’ll do well. You can’t be afraid of people or the phone and need to understand that absolutely nothing that happens in our office leaves our office.
