Chris Shao Studio, a boutique design firm in New York City, seeks a talented and motivated candidate for an ongoing Junior Designer position. We are looking to add to our team, to assist with the studio’s work across high-end residential, hospitality and multi-unit development projects. You will be working directly with all studio levels including the Principal and Studio Head, in a hands-on environment.
We are looking for someone with a great work-ethic, and enthusiastic about being involved in a variety of local and international projects. Candidate must be proficient in standard computer production programs. You will be supporting the designers in both design-related and administrative office duties. An understanding of specifications, construction detailing, and materiality selections is a key skillset.

Responsibilities:
- Assist senior interior designers in developing design concepts and plans
- Create detailed drawings & models using AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Rhino
- Understanding of client needs and preferences
- Select materials, finishes, and furnishings for interior spaces
- Prepare presentations and mood boards to communicate design ideas
- Assist with project management tasks such as budgeting and scheduling
- Coordinate with contractors and vendors to ensure timely completion of projects
- Provide support in sourcing and procurement of materials and furniture
- Assist in site visits to monitor progress and quality of work
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or MFA in Interior Design or related field
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office
- Strong knowledge of color theory, lighting design, and space planning principles
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations
- Experience with contract documents and specifications is a plus
- Sales experience or knowledge of sales techniques is a plus
- Ability to multitask and prioritize projects effectively
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
