What are the responsibilities and job description for the Communications Manager (Episcopal Church) position at Christ Church Cathedral?
Join our wonderful staff as our Communications Manager! This is an exciting time to join Christ Church Cathedral as we embark on a season under our new Dean and Rector, open a new wing of our building, and undertake initiatives to share God’s love with our neighbors in downtown Nashville. The Communications Manager is appointed by and accountable to the Rector (lead pastor) and extends and supports the Cathedral’s ministry in the parish, community, and diocese (province of middle Tennessee). We are looking for someone who is friendly, detail-oriented, experienced, creative, willing to help out, trustworthy, and able to keep confidences. Teamwork is important, as well as flexibility of process and vision. Also, important will be experience with a liturgical tradition (for instance, Episcopal, Anglican, Lutheran, Methodist, Catholic, Disciples of Christ).
Position is full-time, typically 40 hours/week, in office at least 8 hours per day 4 days/week, with one shorter day in-office, with flexible arrival and departure times. Must be willing to be on staff.
Salary will be established in Letter of Agreement with Rector, $66,000-$70,000, based on experience. Regular full-time, exempt, benefits include contribution to retirement plan and individual health insurance. Required background check and Safe Church training.
Under the Rector’s supervision, the Communications Manager works with other staff and clergy exercising lead responsibility and taking initiative in tasks and areas as assigned:
- Develops and designs program content that reflects and communicates the Cathedral's mission
- Produces weekly email blasts, as-needed pastoral notices (e.g., deaths, marriages, and births), and special blasts
- Maintains content and design of website (in process of being redone by outside contractor in spring/summer 2025)
- Maintains events and programs calendar on website
- Designs and produces social media graphics and manages accounts
- Designs and updates weekly insert with Announcements into worship leaflet (content is the same as weekly email blasts)
- Designs and produces event graphics for both digital and print materials (website, posters, postcards, etc.), staying in budget
- Designs and produces pew rack and visitor bag assets (occasional updates)
- Designs and produces Annual Report in December/January
- Designs and executes assets for Stewardship/Pledge Drive in September/October
- Produces all assets for Annual Vestry election and Annual Meeting in January
- Designs and produces assets for Cathedral concerts and other musical offerings
- Generates events in YouTube, including relevant slides, and manages streaming to website
- Evaluates need for and produces video content
- Manages sermon podcast
- Manages Archives site
- Produces parish letters and assists volunteers with mailings
- Schedules photography/videography as needed; provides guidance to volunteer photographers
- Provides Realm database support to Parish Coordinator
- Manages the Cathedral's outside digital assets (Google page, Nextdoor, Episcopal Church asset map, Yelp, etc.)
- Designs signage for exterior and interior of building (including outdoor welcome banners)
- Strategizes with Dean and Rector and other staff about reaching neighbors in nearby apartment buildings and neighborhoods
- Additional communications roles as assigned
Qualifications
- Degree in communications, marketing, media, or related field
5-7 years' experience in external communications, preferably non-profit
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace
- 2-3 years’ experience in WordPress
- 2-3 years’ experience in Canva
Strong leadership skills and excellent written and oral communication skill
- Experience in A/V production and editing
- Personal or professional experience with a liturgical church tradition (for instance, Episcopal, Lutheran, Methodist, Catholic, Moravian, Disciples of Christ)
