Position Overview:
The Communications Associate plays a key role in both internal parish communications and public relations within the broader community. As a member of the staff, this individual collaborates with clergy, staff, and parish leaders to develop and implement communication strategies, manage digital and print publications, and ensure a cohesive messaging approach across all platforms. This is a full-time position.
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
Technical & Job-Related Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop).
- Experience with Canva, website management, and the ability to quickly learn new software.
- Experience in maintaining a website.
- Strong writing, editing, graphic design, and digital content creation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple communication channels, including social media, email, and print materials.
Interpersonal & Organizational Skills:
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with staff, parishioners, and volunteers.
- Ability to develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy.
Education & Requirements:
- Associate degree in communications, marketing, or a related field is preferred.
- Prior experience in communications, public relations, or a similar role.
- Completion of a Criminal Background Check and Child Abuse Background Check.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for extended periods and use telephone and computer equipment.
- Ability to lift equipment up to 25 lbs.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Internal & External Communications
- Develop, edit, and produce weekly worship bulletins in collaboration with clergy and musicians.
- Manage and distribute parish emails, including weekly updates and special announcements.
- Design and edit promotional materials such as flyers, digital graphics, and social media content.
- Design and edit three seasonal magazines for distribution in the parish.
- Work with stewardship and development
- Maintain and update the website with timely event and program information.
- Oversee volunteers assisting with print materials and bulletin inserts.
- Monitor and manage social media accounts, coordinating efforts with other staff.
2. Digital & Print Media Production
- Create and oversee the production of banners, signage, and other marketing materials.
- Develop seasonal brochures, newsletters, and special mailings as needed.
- Write and distribute news releases and paid advertisements.
3. Strategic Planning & Coordination
- Maintain a communications calendar to track important milestones and deadlines.
- Collaborate with clergy, program staff, and ministry leaders to develop marketing strategies for church initiatives.
- Ensure all communications maintain a unified and professional presentation.
- Develop and implement a public relations plan to enhance community engagement.
- Stay informed on new communication trends and technologies to improve outreach.
