Communications Assistant

PURPOSE: The Communications Assistant will use their creative, administrative and project management skills to help the Communications team that is working to reach those who have yet to know, love and follow Jesus, as well as inspire, equip and empower those who call Christ Church their home. This person will also work alongside the Production and Worship teams bringing clarity and creativity to Sunday’s worship and teaching.

Essential Functions

  • Play a key role in the Communications Ministry of Christ Church
  • Perform copywriting, editing and proofreading for print, digital communications, newsletters, and other publications as needed under the direction of the Executive Director of Worship Arts & Communications and the Managing Director of Communications
  • Coordinate and manage projects to complete work on time and move projects forward
  • Create, edit and maintain website, as well as posting online materials and resources
  • Update and maintain building screens and explore boards
  • Assist with the project management of resources, projects and events, including printing and cutting
  • Maintain and manage communications documents, Teams and Touchpoint templates and materials
  • Oversee and manage the Paper Room, Comms Suite, Literature Racks, Worship Tables and Connection Centers
  • Provide administrative support to the Communications team, facilitating effective internal communications, scheduling meetings and appointments
  • Organize and maintain Communications and Media Ministry assets in Basecamp
  • Additional duties as assigned and needed within the Communications Ministry
  • Create and update online host notes for worship services

  • Ability to take direction from the Executive Director of Worship Arts and Communications and the Managing Director of Communications and work well on a team

  • Possess strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills for press releases, print, web, email, and publications
  • Possess strong oral communications and listening skills, with high professionalism
  • Proficient in AP Style
  • Possess superior understanding of grammar and news media style
  • Have a solid understanding of effective marketing communications practices
  • Ability to multi-task, meet project deadlines, and maintain composure under pressure
  • Begin and end projects within a reasonable timeframe
  • Energized by non-routine assignments
  • Ability to work independently and be proactive in searching for solutions
  • Creative and innovative
  • Good working knowledge of Adobe Creative suite, proficient in Photoshop, InDesign preferred, as well as Microsoft Office

Work Hours And Availability

  • Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in–office presence
  • Sunday mornings on occasion
  • Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Saturday, Easter Sunday, Christmas Eve and special events

Qualifications

ADDITIONAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in the public relations, copywriting, advertising, journalism, and/or marketing fields.
  • Experience in a large church or nonprofit organization a plus
