Christ Health Center has an excellent opportunity for a Health Information Specialist to join our team. The Health Information Specialist is responsible for processing medical record requests and maintaining an organized and meaningful health record for patients, providers, and outside agencies while meeting regulatory standards for record management. The Health Information Specialist is required to have an exceptional knowledge of HIPAA to ensure patient privacy, be diligent about confidentiality, and have exceptional organizational and computer skills.

Major Duties & Responsibilities: Job Skills
- Knowledge & Understanding of HIPAA
- Knowledge & Understanding of Medical Records Rights to Access Policy
- Knowledge of processing medical records requests (General)
- Knowledge of processing subpoenas and ability to process medical records for legal purposes
- Accurate copying and provision of medical records
- Scanning and filing of medical record images into the electronic medical record (EMR)
- Manages the Medical Records Inbox
- Assists with chart audits for third party payers
- Processes medical record requests originating from both internal and external customers
- Corrects unprocessed documents in EMR
- Each employee of Christ Health Center is vital to providing overall quality care to our patients and may be included in the patient care team and daily huddle when deemed necessary by the Core Care Team.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required Skills/abilities
- Excellent verbal, organizational and written communications skills.
- Requires analytical skills, attention to detail, effective organization skills, ability to work in a fast-paced environment and ability to self-direct with minimal supervision.
- Requires the ability to work in a multi-cultural setting (Bi-Lingual in Spanish is preferred)
- Ability to work autonomously but also with others in a team/group environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Type at least 35 wpm
Qualification, Education, Experience
- High school diploma or higher required
- Minimum of 1 year experience preferably in a physician office
- FQHC Experience preferred
- Athena (EMR) experience preferred

- Punctual and dependent for assigned/confirmed shifts.
Language Skills
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; ability to write simple correspondence and reports; Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to patients, visitors, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.
Reasoning Ability
- The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense. The ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events) and to convey the information to others.
Physical/Mental Demands
- Work requires the ability to lift objects weighing up to 20-50 pounds.
- Work requires ability to carry objects weighing up to 20-50 pounds.
- Work requires ability to stand /- 90% of the time.
- Work requires ability to stoop and bend, to reach, and grab with arms and hands; manual dexterity and to communicate with others.
- Work requires proofreading and checking documents for accuracy.
- Work requires ability to use a keyboard and visualize a computer monitor to enter words or data.
- Clinic may be crowded and noisy.
- Some stress resulting from the diversity and the intensity of patients and their care.
- OSHA personal exposure risk category I & II.
- Airborne personal exposure risk category I (Possible exposure of the healthcare worker to patients capable of transmitting M. tuberculosis). Universal precautions will be adhered to at all times.
