The Director of Children's Ministries is responsible for developing a program of ministry to children emphasizing worship, study, service, and fellowship. The Director will work with other staff members under the direction of the Senior Pastor. As such, the job of Director of Children’s Ministries requires special skills and responsibilities.
Duties
- Plan, develop, schedule and implement all new and ongoing programs and activities (nursery through 6th grade).
- Provide meaningful discipleship opportunities that enable children to develop in their Christian faith.
- Coordinate the recruitment of teachers and leaders for children's Sunday School classes, Children’s Church, Vacation Bible School and all other children's programs and activities in coordination with the children’s council and Council on Ministries
- Coordinate the recruitment of chaperones, helpers, and other volunteers for all children's ministries.
- Direct the children's Sunday School and Children’s church programs, interpret and order curriculum, serve as a resource person, and provide counsel with children's leaders
- Conduct a program of outreach and enrollment of new Sunday School members, update class rolls, and maintain attendance records for the children's educational program
- Provide training opportunities for teachers and workers and appreciation for children's division teachers and volunteers.
- Oversee purchases of supplies, learning resources and equipment for children's educational programs.
- Help to establish a budget for Children’s Ministry and operate within the budget.
- Attend meetings of the staff, Ministry Council, Executive Leadership Team, and other groups relating to children's ministries.
- Active involvement in school and community activities.
- Participate in District and Conference activities and functions, special workshops and continuing education programs related to Christian education and children's ministries
- Ensure Ministry Safe Policy is observed in all children’s ministry settings
- Oversee coordination of yearly Confirmation classes in coordination with clergy and volunteers.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Proven leadership experience in a similar role or environment.
- Strong mentoring skills with a passion for educating others.
- Experience in Christian counseling or related fields is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with hospice care practices and bereavement support services.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Experience working with children is preferred.
- Ability to plan events effectively while managing multiple priorities.
