Full Time Maintenance - Christ the King, South Bend (South Bend, IN)

OVERVIEW

The maintenance position is a full-time hourly member of the staff at Christ the King Catholic Church and School.  This position reports to the Maintenance Director and is subject to an annual performance review to determine fulfillment of the duties outlined in this job description.  This position works a normal, five-day work week with occasional weekends.

Maintenance/housekeeping staff is expected to represent the parish in a professional manner.  He or she should maintain a professional appearance.  Prior to hiring a Safe Environment background check and training will be required.

JOB DUTIES

• This position regularly performs cleaning duties, event set-ups and completes work order requests for the school and parish grounds.

• Includes removal of trash during lunch hours.

• Helps maintain air ducts and air-handling systems in the school and parish facilities as needed.

• Helps maintain roof drains.

• Assists outside contractors in the performance of their duties.

• Provides cover and acts as the fill-in person for maintenance/housekeeping staff members who have called in sick, on vacation, or are otherwise unable to cover their normal work duties.

• Ensures the safety and security of all school and parish facilities by properly locking and unlocking all doors at the appointed hours. 

• Ensures the safety of the grounds.  This includes working with contracted personnel, housekeeping and maintenance staff to remove hazards and debris from walkways and driveways, and clearing snow from sidewalks and exits.

• Monitors and ensures that the grounds around the school and parish facilities are properly maintained.

• Assists in regular checks and maintenance of all mechanical parts connected with the operations of the physical plant for preventive maintenance.

• Participates in the setup and cleanup of parish functions.

• Assists those responsible for church seasonal decorations as needed.

• Performs all work order requests in a timely fashion. This includes changing light bulbs in classrooms.

• Reports directly to the Maintenance Director and keeps him/her informed of all major issues, unexpected problems and equipment needs.

• Other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Director, Pastor, or Business Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS 

• Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent

• Prior experience in maintenance of 2 years or more

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Sitting, standing, walking, climbing/ladders, squatting/kneeling, reaching, grasping, pushing/pulling, twisting/bending, lifting/carrying up to 20 lbs multiple times per shift.
