Corporate Work Study Overview
Christ the King Jesuit College Prep, through the Cristo Rey Network model, prepares young men and women from Chicago’s West Side to be leaders and agents of change through the integration of college preparatory study, work experience, extracurricular activities, and service. Through participation in the Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP), our students earn up to 50% of their education costs and develop the skills and gain the experiences necessary for college and career success.
Over 100 Chicagoland businesses and non-profit organizations partner with CTK by hiring students to work in entry level positions in their organizations. One position is filled by a team of four students who each work one day per week and rotate on the fifth workday. CWSP provides a dedicated liaison to ensure a successful work placement for both corporate partners and students.
Job Summary
As a member of the Career Readiness team, the Career Readiness Instructor (CRI) will support the development and implementation of the career readiness curriculum. In doing so, the CRI will support the goals of positive student growth in career readiness to increase/improve:
- Students’ performance in their CWSP jobs
- Corporate partner’s satisfaction with students’ work
- Students’ personal growth and satisfaction derived from their CWSP jobs
- Connections students make between CWSP work and their academic, college, career, and personal goals
- Advantages students take from the opportunities their CWSP experiences provide
- Correlations students make between college and career
- Post high school career opportunities
Key Responsibilities
Career Readiness Curriculum & Instruction
- Teach a full-time equivalent class-load of Career Readiness classes.
- Support the development of a four-year student development and career readiness curriculum that aligns with the continuous growth needs of students and the work skill needs of corporate partners.
- Create lesson plans aligned to desired learning outcomes and assessment metrics, tools, and schedules.
- Utilize rigorous, engaging, and high-impact strategies to ensure student attainment of mastery on key skills and learning outcomes.
- Foster a classroom defined by strong classroom management coupled with a positive environment of high expectations, high support, and a focus on building a growth mindset.
- Grade student work in alignment with equitable grading practices.
- Hold students accountable to the schoolwide code of conduct and dress code expectations, along with the CTK classroom checklist.
- Sub internally for other academic classes, including other career readiness sections, as needed.
- Participate in faculty meetings, curriculum development, admissions interviews, intervention planning and implementation, and professional development including, but not limited to, Cristo Rey Network Summer Institutes, as planned
- Participate in Faith Formation including, but not limited to, Faculty-Staff Retreats, Jesuit Identity Workshops, and Mission Meetings
Other Duties
- Participate in parent/teacher/administrator conferences.
- Engage parents and families through regular communication and outreach.
- Support the engagement and instruction of non-deployed students and/or working from CTK students on their workdays.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Career Readiness Curriculum Coordinator or VP of College & Career Initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited University/College, preferably in the field of education.
- 3 years of teaching experience, ideally with experience in creating curriculum and/or working with students from historically underserved communities. Illinois PEL (or other state certification) a plus.
- Demonstrate strong classroom management skills in an environment of respect and rapport.
- Demonstrate strong organizational and record-keeping skills, including submission of lesson plans and gradebook updates.
- Passion for education and the mission of Christ the King Jesuit College Prep including CTK’s Jesuit Catholic identity and the model of the Cristo Rey Network.
- Cultural competence in addressing complex issues and a demonstrated commitment to promoting inclusion, equity, diversity, and accessibility.
- Flexibility to adjust hours as needed and to meet deadlines and school needs.
- The successful candidate will be required to pass a background check.
