CTK is seeking a second compassionate Nursery Care Giver to join our team and our Nursery Ministry. If you have a passion for caring for infants and children, we welcome you to apply for this rewarding position.

Job Description: Nursery Care Giver

Position Summary: Provide a safe and nurturing Christian environment for children infant to age five years to allow parents or guardians to attend worship or educational activities at Christ the King Lutheran Church.

Reports to: Co-Lead Pastor

Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt

Basic Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Responsible for providing age-appropriate care for children while creating a safe, positive and welcoming environment.

2. Cheerfully interact with children through games, stories, play and prayer.

3. Enthusiastic and intentional about establishing nurturing relationships with children and their families. Present a polite, friendly, and courteous attitude to all children, parents, and volunteers.

4. Act as a team nursery care giver during Sunday worship services, special event worship services, scheduled adult educational programs, etc. Nursery hours will begin 30 minutes prior to scheduled events and end 30 minutes following their completion. Arrive 30 minutes prior to the 9:00 am worship service. Nursery hours include every Sunday 8:30 am- 12:30 pm, holidays included. You may have the option to work other church events, i.e. Holy Week, Christmas Eve, Vacation Bible School, annual meeting etc. The opportunity for extra work will be announced at least 2 weeks prior to the event.

5. Remain in the nursery for the entirety of shift and until the children are reunited with a responsible adult named on the child’s registration form.

6. After each shift, clean and return all nursery toys, books, and materials to their storage location before leaving.

7. Greet each family at the door and check-in all children ensuring the capture of contact information for both the children and parents/guardians (plus child name tag and parent tag).

8. Screen the general health of all children. Return children to their parents if the child may be contagious or otherwise not well enough for group nursery care.

9. Record hours worked weekly and report monthly hours to designated finance committee member.

10. Notify Co-Lead Pastor:

a. of any issues which may hinder the ability of nursery staff to carry out the duties or responsibilities of this position.

b. In the case of illness or emergency by phone as soon as possible.

c. Make recommendations for improvements or equipment requests.

Education / Training requirement(s):

High School Diploma (minimum)

Infant and Child CPR certification (if not certified, reimbursement will be provided to obtain certification).

Qualifications & Skills Required:

A. Demonstrates a loving attitude toward children.

B. Committed believer of Christ

C. Dependable and punctual.

D. Ability to be self-directed and self-motivated.

E. Must pass a criminal background check.

Safety:

· CompleteSexual Abuse Awareness Training (yearly).

· Follow Youth Protection Policies and Procedures.

· Strive to have two adults in the nursery at all times (including taking bathroom breaks as necessary)

Hours: This position will be 4.0 hours a week on Sunday from approximately 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and special services as determined by the Church (e.g. Lent, Christmas Eve & opportunity for other special events as they are available pending scheduling).

Time off/Vacation:

· No paid vacation.

· Time off coordinated with direct supervisor.

o Communicate in advance, by phone to Co-Lead Pastor.

o Plan absences with an advance two-week notice.

o Extenuating circumstances requiring an unplanned absence, call at least two hours prior or as soon as possible.

Evaluation

The Nursery Care Giver will receive an annual performance evaluation conducted by the Co-Lead Pastor.
