The Oblate Service Corporation-Christ the King Retreat Center is seeking applicants for a Food Service Supervisor for their Retreat Center.
SUMMARY: The Food Service Supervisor will prepare and present food to guests and staff at Christ the King Retreat Center. Meals will be prepared in a safe manner, following Serve Safe protocols and those other protocols established specifically for Christ the King Retreat Center. Will schedule and supervise other Food Service department employees.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- The Food Service Supervisor position will maintain all pertinent licensures, per state and local ordinance.
- Will supervise and schedule all Food Service Department staff and Food Service Department housekeeping
- Is responsible for planning menus with the input from the main office staff that ensures food service is appropriate for the needs of each group
- Will be responsible for ordering all food, utensils and dishes needed for proper running of the department. All equipment or maintenance expenditures $500 and over must be approved by the Business Operations Manager.
- Will work with the Business Operations Manager to keep costs within the annual food service budget
- Is responsible for the cleanliness and maintenance of all kitchen and dining areas and equipment. Will work with the maintenance department for any maintenance and repair issues which can be handled in house
- Runs cost comparisons on occasion to help the retreat center get the best deals from possible vendors
- The Food Service Supervisor, along with the Business Operation Manager, will be involved in the hiring, evaluation and dismissal of all food service personnel
- Will meet regularly with the Business Operations Manager to turn in invoices and discuss kitchen needs and budgets
- Will do yearly employee evaluations, or as necessary, should the need arise for additional employee evaluation
Education and/or Experience
- High school education or equivalency preferred
- Knowledge of safe food handling protocols
- Ability to become Serve Safe certified
- Ability to communicate with fellow workers and vendors through spoken, written and electronic means
- Ability to use all appliance, large and small, in the preparation of meals
- Able to lift 30 pounds
- Job requires walking and standing 90% of the time. The other 10% will include sitting, kneeling, bending and stooping
- Due to technological advances, workers may find it necessary to take additional training to update their skill set

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. This individual must show Christian hospitality by example in every aspect of the job. Must have the ability to maintain composure under stress, demonstrate good problem-solving skills while also being open minded to the opinions of others. Solid knowledge of commercial food preparation equipment and practices. Excellent communication skills both oral and written, good work habits, self-motivation and a desire to perform at one’s highest level.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, use commercial food preparation equipment and small sharp tools, such as knives. Be able to lift 30 pounds, lifting from ground to waist and occasional waist to overhead. This individual should have good motor skills and ability to distinguish different sounds. The position requires up to 8 hours of standing and walking.
Work Hours
This is a full-time 40-hour position, Monday – Friday, must be available evenings and weekends should the need arise.
