Position: Director of Children’s Ministry
Reports to: Lead Pastor
Direct reports: Childcare Providers
Full-Time: 40 hours/week
Beginning: June 2025
The Director of Children’s Ministry leads the Children’s Ministry Team and works closely with the church staff to develop the congregation’s ministry with children (birth through sixth grade) and their families. The position consistently works to connect all aspects of the children’s ministry to the overall vision of Christ United Methodist Church.

Responsibilities:
- Communicate and interpret the church’s vision with all involved with the children’s ministry
- Supervise curriculum, recruitment and training of volunteers for working with large and small groups
- Be accessible and check in with teachers during the Sunday School hour
- Oversee the confirmation process
- Oversee BANANA Club (5&6th gr.), Apple Club (3&4th gr.) and
Grape Club (PreK-2nd gr.)
- Coordinate development of small group opportunities and special events for children and their families
- Supervise and resource volunteers to implement Vacation Bible School
- Supervise and resource volunteers to implement Mission and Music Camp with coordination of the Minister of Music and Worship
- Coordinate workshop on human sexuality
- Empower and equip parents and other family members to be spiritual leaders in their homes
- Be available to children and their families, making visits to homes, hospitals and schools as needed
- Identify, equip and support laity to serve in children’s ministry and lead the Children’s Ministry Team
- Design and oversee Children’s Worship and offer children’s sermon as needed
- Supervise Childcare Coordinator and volunteers to provide a safe and welcoming environment for children
- Maintain compliance with all Safe Sanctuary policies and procedures
- Develop and manage the budget for children’s ministry
- Facilitate communication between children’s ministry leaders, staff and the congregation
- Foster pastoral relationships with parents. Communicate consistently with parents and families
- Develop opportunities for children and their families to be in mission in the community
- Demonstrate hospitality by reaching out to children in the community
Qualifications:
- Mature Christian character and a desire for ministry
- Minimum Associates degree required
- Commitment to a team approach to ministry
- Demonstrated ability to remain current with cultural trends and issues relevant to children and parents
- Ability to relate to/with children of all ages, volunteers and parents/grandparents
- Commitment to continuing education in the area of children’s ministry and staff leadership
Experience:
- 5 years' experience in children’s ministry preferred or equivalent work/ education experience
- Experience teaching and communicating church doctrine, scripture and the history and culture of the United Methodist Church
- Demonstrated experience developing effective working relationships, strong interpersonal skills required.
