Christel House Schools is now accepting applications for a Media Clerk. Christel House Schools is a growing network of high performing charter schools dedicated to serving low-income, urban students in Indianapolis.
FLSA: Full-Time; Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Principal
JOB SUMMARY:
This position provides support to the Media Specialist with routine duties of maintaining and operating the school media center.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Organize and maintain the routine operation of the media center; receive, process, circulate, and shelve print and non-print materials.
- Assist students in learning basic information skills including the use of the library catalog and reference sources.
- Assist students and teachers in locating and selecting appropriate materials.
- Prepare and send overdue notices as required.
- Input data to computerized catalog.
- Inspect materials for damage and request or perform repairs as necessary.
- Perform clerical tasks such as shelving and moving books and filing.
- Assist with book fairs and other similar activities.
- Assist with collecting materials for teachers, and answer basic reference questions including the use of print and non-print materials.
- Maintain an environment that is conducive to active and participatory learning.
- Model and encourage the use of media materials to engage students and ensure equitable access to information.
- Prepare forms, bulletins, and letters pertaining to media center functions.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
- Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.
- Create displays to promote books.
- Participate in appropriate professional activities
- Other duties assigned.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate’s degree or college credit hours equivalent to an associate’s degree
- Experience working in a library setting.
- Ability and willingness to work collaboratively; maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships
- High level of organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis
- An agreement with the mission statement and goals of Christel House Schools
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
- Ability to reach with hands and arms
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
