Christel House Indianapolis is a thriving and innovative network of urban charter schools in Indianapolis. We consist of two traditional K-8 academies, a traditional high school, an innovation high school, and an adult dropout recovery high school (DORS) on three campuses. Our mission is to support students and families to break the cycle of generational poverty. What makes us unique is that Christel House Indianapolis provides a holistic human development approach that focuses on building strong character to complement each student’s rigorous academic foundation. 100% of our high school seniors are accepted to a 4-year university but not all choose to attend a 4-year program. It is important to us that ALL students are academically prepared to attend university but have the opportunity to pursue and explore multiple academic and career paths during their time at Christel House. Through our College & Careers program, Christel House Indianapolis continues to support our graduates through post-secondary education and job placement so they become self-sufficient, contributing members of society. In this role, you will provide students and graduates across our K-12 Academies with vocational guidance services to ensure they have an opportunity to pursue their passions.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
Graduate Support
- Coach a caseload of approx 150 high school graduates as they pursue training and careers. Communicate with & mentor graduates on a regular basis to help them achieve their post-secondary and career goals
- Provide support to recent graduates
- Administer the graduate financial support program
- Maintain & track communication with graduates; update database
- Assist in coordination of graduate workshops, events, and networking opportunities
- Refer graduates to employers or employment services for job placement
In-School Career Guidance
- Identify professions and post-secondary courses, training programs and/or vocational training for students earning a technical honor’s diploma.
- Mentor current HS students pursuing post-secondary options in the military, apprenticeships or employment, help them develop and prepare their post-secondary plan prior to graduation.
- Assist with the facilitation of quality college and career guidance for students 9-12
- Instruct students in career development techniques such as job search and application strategies, resume writing, and interview skills.
- Evaluate students’ abilities, interests, and personality characteristics using tests, records, interviews, or professional sources.
- Develop pathways to success programming for students– higher education, technical programs, apprenticeships, certifications and/or entry into the labor market.
- Plan and promote career and employment-related programs and events, such as career planning presentations, work experience programs, job fairs, and career workshops.
Community Relations
- Establish contacts with community leaders and employers to create partnerships, internships and employment opportunities for students and graduates.
- Work with universities and vocational schools to identify and secure support programs for students.
- Compile and study occupational, educational, and economic information to assist students in determining and carrying out vocational objectives.
- Coordinate with Christel House International for graduate participation in donor events.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
- Encourage parent involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails.
- Maintain a working knowledge of available resources for students.
- Participate in appropriate professional activities
- Other duties assigned.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, or Social Service, or related field
- Spanish Bilingual preferred
- Ability and willingness to work collaboratively; maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis
- An agreement with the mission statement and goals of Christel House Academy and Christel House International
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to stand/sit for long periods of time
- Ability to reach with hands and arms
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
Salary : $58,000 - $60,000
