The Middle School and High School Choir Teacher is responsible for planning and conducting 6th, 7th, 8th grade, and High School choirs.
The Middle School and High School Choir Teacher will be the spiritual leader in the classroom by modeling prayer and love toward students in a Christ-like manner. He/she will effectively plan and execute lessons, with appropriate strategies, for student mastery of content. The teacher will recognize all students learn differently and will implement motivating and engaging learning strategies designed to meet the needs of all learners. This method of teaching will contribute to students’ development as mature, able and responsible Christian men and women to the praise and glory of God. He/she will also manage/monitor student learning in an encouraging classroom environment that allows for students to grow in depth of knowledge. The teacher will engage in professional development trainings and collaborative learning opportunities for growth in professional relationships and growth in his/her craft of teaching.
The Choir Teacher is responsible for leading and developing the choral music program in a Christ-centered environment. This role involves teaching vocal techniques, music theory, and performance skills while integrating biblical principles into instruction. The teacher will cultivate a love for worship and music in students, preparing them for concerts, chapels, competitions, and community events.
Qualifications
The candidate shall possess characteristics that reflect:
- A strong clear Christian testimony with a mature and godly spirit
- A daily example of the highest Christian virtue both in and out of school
- Commitment to faithful attendance and support of a church whose beliefs are in agreement with the Statement of Faith for Christian Academy School System
- Agreement and belief that the Bible is the final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind
The ideal candidate shall possess the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Vocal Performance, or a related field.
- Experience directing choirs and working with high school students in an educational or church setting.
- Current state teaching certificate/license
- Strong vocal and piano skills preferred.
- Ability to inspire and disciple students through music.
- Have completed at least 12 hours in professional education coursework
- Meet certification guidelines required to obtain and maintain active ACSI teacher certification throughout employment
Accountabilities/Responsibilities
Spiritual Leadership:
- Intentionally integrates Biblical values and morals
- Encourage students to use their musical gifts for God's glory in worship and service.
- Understands and implements the Matthew 18 principle with students, parents, peers and administration in an appropriate manner
- Assess students' spiritual leads them in spiritual growth
- Leads students in daily prayer and devotions
- Models a consistent relationship with Jesus Christ
Instructional Planning & Preparation:
- Demonstrates knowledge of content and pedagogy (the art and science of teaching)
- Designs lessons with clear, focused and measurable instructional objectives
- Objectives provide for deliberate skill development in the high order thinking processes
- Plans include integration of technology to enhance/accelerate learning and mastery of content
Instructional Delivery:
- Teach choir classes, including beginning, advanced, and possibly specialized ensembles (e.g., worship team, show choir).
- Develop a curriculum that includes vocal technique, sight-reading, music history, and theory from a Christian perspective.
- Select repertoire that aligns with the school’s Christian values while exposing students to diverse musical styles.
- Demonstrates Biblical integration and Christian worldview
- Establishes learning expectations with well-defined openings
- Implements a variety of strategies to introduce, explain and restate subject matter concepts
- Employs a variety of questioning techniques that enhances critical thinking.
Classroom Environment:
- Creates a learning environment promoting positive social interaction, active engagement in learning and self-motivation; creates an environment of respect and rapport through reinforcement and praise
- Provide individual coaching and mentorship to help students develop their vocal abilities.
- Provides opportunities for students to develop a Christian mind and lifestyle
- Encourage teamwork and leadership within the choir program.
- Manages student behavior: implements classroom rules, routines and procedures that allow a student to assume his/her own responsibility
- Organizes physical space: attractive, well-ordered, conducive to learning and student work displayed
Performance & Program Development:
- Plan and direct school concerts.
- Prepare students for solo and ensemble competitions, festivals, and other performance opportunities.
Professionalism and Communication:
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and assessments.
- Coordinate rehearsals, concerts, and trips, including logistical planning.
- Manage the choir budget, fundraising, and acquisition of necessary materials.
- Communicates in a positive, clear manner and uses accurate grammar and spelling in written form
- Represents the school in a favorable and professional manner
- Communicates with families about students’ progress on a regular basis and responds to family/student concerns in a timely and appropriate manner
- Maintains teachable spirit and assumes responsibility for actions
- Maintains confidentiality and supports, listens and views school success as a team effort
