Middle School Gudiance Counselor
Anticipated Start Date July 2025
The Middle School Guidance Counselor position requires an understanding of the student and includes assessments of ability and achievement. Four major elements should be obvious: (1) dependence on God to work in every area, (2) the use of the Scriptures, (3) the love and concern of the faculty and other staff for the students and (4) the understanding of basic principles of biblical guidance and counseling by those serving the students.
Qualifications
The candidate shall possess characteristics that reflect:
- A strong clear Christian testimony with a mature and godly spirit
- A daily example of the highest Christian virtue both in and out of school
- Commitment to faithful attendance and support of a church whose beliefs are in agreement with the Statement of Faith for Christian Academy School System
The ideal candidate shall possess:
- A Master’s degree in School Counseling preferred
- Eligibility for ACSI certification
Accountabilities/Responsibilities
- Conduct school-wide testing program to assist students in understanding their God-given abilities, interests, and aptitudes
- Assess and assist the students in regard to their initial adjustment to the school
- Continue counseling throughout the school year to ensure a smooth transition
- Provide Biblical/Christian wisdom and counsel to students, faculty and parents as needed
- Implement Matthew 18 principle in resolving differences/difficulties
- Conduct observations of student behavior in classrooms
- Assist the teachers in appraisal of students
- Secure and maintain records in cumulative folders and makes these available for Teacher use
- Secure transcripts and cumulative folders of incoming students
- Direct the school’s standardized testing program (with assistance from the Elementary Counselor). This includes data collection, tabulation and report writing
- Maintain and report class/subject standardized test scores
- Provide curriculum information to Middle School students and parents
- Provide help to Teachers in understanding cumulative records .
- Meets with students who present specific areas of behavioral, learning, or social issues
- Advise students with respect to educational planning
Outcomes
- Ongoing counseling and guidance for students and parents
- Teachers fully trained in methods and styles of communications for handling their guidance responsibilities
- Ongoing communication of tests, evaluations and results
Reporting Relationship
The Middle School Counselor is responsible to the Middle School Principal.
