Minister of Music - Anthony Cherry Associates

Friendship Baptist Church (FBC), Norfolk is currently seeking a Minister of Music to lead a vibrant, progressive music ministry in support of FBC’s mission, vision, and values. The Minister of Music is responsible for planning, conducting, and evaluating a coConsult with the comprehensive music ministry.

Job Description

What will the Minister of Music do?

o Consult with the Pastor regarding necessary music preparations for Church related activities. (Weddings, funerals, etc.)

o Determine music ministry goals, organization, leadership, finances, and administrative processes.

o Direct the planning, organizing, conducting, and evaluation of a comprehensive music ministry including choirs, vocal and instrumental ensembles. Provide variety in types of music presented.

o Work with soloists, ensembles, and instrumentalists regarding the selection and appropriateness of the music.

o Lead the congregational singing.

o Coordinate the schedule for worship service accompanists and special music, and secure replacements in the Minister of Music's absence.

o Train lead vocalists and accompanists for the Church music ministry.

o Lead in planning and promoting the choir program; direct and coordinate the work of the lay choir directors; direct adult choir and other choirs as needed.

o Ensure the coordination of the Music Ministry programs with the Church calendar.

o Work with the sound, lighting, and multimedia technicians for effective presentation.

o Be available to counsel, arrange and provide music for special projects, ministries, and other Church-related activities in cooperation with appropriate individuals or groups.

o Supervise the work of all music leaders in the Music Ministry.

o Work in cooperation with appropriate persons in selecting, enlisting, training, and advising song leaders, accompanists, and other musicians who serve in Church program organizations.

o Schedule and promote choir camps, workshops, clinics, and programs for the various choirs.

o Keep abreast of current music methods, materials, and administration, utilizing them where appropriate.

o Coordinate the training and use of instrumentalists and vocalists in groups or as individuals.

o With advance notice, be available or schedule coverage for nights and weekends for music ministry events as well as work with the Pastor in supporting visits to other churches as needed.

o Design, establish, and maintain Music Library for the benefit of the FBC Music Ministry and keep updated.

o Recommend the financial needs of the music ministry to the Church Business Administrator and maintain responsibility for the expenditures of the Music Ministry.

o Perform other music ministry related duties as assigned by the Pastor.

Minimum Qualifications

· Required:

o High School Diploma

o Proficiency in music keyboard, organ, voice, and music direction.

o Experience in a music church staff or other music-related position.

o Ability to listen effectively and to communicate clearly, both orally and in written form.

o Exceptional speaking skills and the ability to speak confidently before groups.

o Quality leadership and people skills.

o Exceptional administrative, planning, and organizational skills.

Preferred Requirements

· Preferred:

o College Degree

o Some training in denominational worship

o Basic ability to use computer software, such as Microsoft Office.

o Commitment to Biblical Christian principles and teachings both professionally and personally
