The Circuit Clerk’s office in Christian County, 38th Judicial Circuit has an opening for the following:

Apprentice Court Clerk, Circuit Clerk Office

40 hours per week. $1,435.31 per pay period. Workdays will be during the office hours of 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Staying after 4:30 is a possibility. **WILL BE on call for a weekend/week day/holidays with the order of protection phone at different times throughout the year.

Knowledge of court procedures and policies, legal documents, laws and legal factors pertaining to the court. Knowledge of organization operations, functions and scope of authority of the court or activity to which assigned. Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to make work decisions in accordance with laws, regulations and departmental policies and procedures. Ability to maintain a variety of complex records and prepare reports from such records.

Applicants must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and external stakeholders. Applicant MUST have EXEMPLARY customer service and respect for authority positions. Accuracy and attention to detail is required.

Applicants must have strong PC, typing, interpersonal and clerical skills, including knowledge of Windows 7, Windows 10, Microsoft Office, Scanner, and Lotus Notes and the skill in the operation of standard office equipment.

May include physical requirements necessary to perform the job, such as, carrying, standing, and lifting. Such requirements vary from position to position and may be determined by the appointing authority.

Applicant will perform technical court clerical work in the filing, processing, scanning, and disposition of court cases.

Enters minutes of court proceedings, work in the courtroom, operates electronic sound recording equipment, and other courtroom related duties as needed, and may include swearing in witnesses.

Applicant will also help with accounting for the end of day procedures.

Works extensively with the public. Answers inquiries and furnishes information by reviewing court records. Receipts in money. Assists in scheduling trials, hearings, continuances and other matters. Assists with answering phone and giving correct information to parties. Makes copies when needed, including looking up old records and research on the old records. Could include the responsibility for the daily delivery and pick up of mail within the Christian County buildings.

Performs any duties as assigned.

Graduation from high school and two years of general clerical experience is a minimum requirement. Prior court or legal experience will be given preference.

EMPLOYEES MAY BE EXPOSED TO: Evidence and testimony that may be disturbing, such as photographs of violent scenes and victims and or sexually explicit material; evidence that may include syringes, drugs, weapons and blood; the public who may potentially be verbally or physically abusive, allergens, such as perfumes and dust; and unpleasant odors, such as unwashed clothing or chemicals offered into evidence.
