What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Bill Examiner position at Christian Healthcare Ministries?
The primary role of the Medical Bill Examiner is to perform quality audits of each medical bill submitted to Christian Healthcare Ministries (CHM). The ideal candidate will provide a high level of accuracy and attention to detail as they ensure compliance with CHM guidelines as well as maintain quality assurance.

Essential Job Functions
- Participate in the implementation of policies and procedures in accordance with CHM guidelines and provide recommendations to the management team as needed.
- Confirm member eligibility of coverage and verify membership monthly monetary contributions are current with required documentation.
- Obtain and promote clinical documentation through extensive interaction with other departments to ensure that the documentation of the level of services rendered to the member and the member’s clinical complexity is complete and accurate.
- Audit itemized bills for accuracy (i.e., patient name, benefit code, place of service, bill incurred date, and total charges)
- Process any medical discounts that apply to the bill accordingly.
- Identify duplication of bills and ineligible amounts.
- De-escalate and escalate bills to appropriate department accordingly for further review on verification and correction.
- Identify and implement strategies to improve quality of service and productivity.
- Ensure high quality of service is delivered upholding an error rate of 1% or less.
Requirements
- Required: High school diploma or passage of a high school equivalency exam
- Medical background preferred.
- Capacity to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to recognize, research and maintain accuracy.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- Able to operate a PC, including working with information systems/applications.
- Previous experience with Microsoft Office programs (I.e., Outlook, Word, Excel & Access)
- Experience operating routine office equipment (i.e., faxes, copy machines, printers, multi-line telephones, etc.)
- Perform other job duties as assigned by management.
