What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Federal Public Policy position at Christian Medical & Dental Society?
Christian Medical & Dental Associations, the world’s largest faith-based organization of healthcare professionals, is seeking a full-time Director of Federal Policy. CMDA’s Director of Federal Policy advances biblical principles impacting healthcare and CMDA's ethical positions by leveraging relationships within the administrative and legislative branches of the federal government as well as partners advocating for similar values at the federal level. This position will report to the Vice President of Bioethics and Public Policy.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitor, analyze, and recommend CMDA positions on legislation and agency regulations dealing with CMDA priority issues
- Attend high-value meetings in consultation with the VP of Advocacy and Bioethics, Senate and House VAT Meetings
- Prepare individual bill summaries on endorsed or opposed legislation dealing with CMDA priority issues
- Use the CMDA legislative software to track bills and resolutions dealing with CMDA priority issues, and develop send and track legislative and regulatory action alerts to members related to the bills and actions being tracked
- If the applicant has a legal background, assist CMDA home office staff in tracking court actions, and Prepare written summaries of court actions as requested
- Develop strategic networks of like-minded partners to enhance advocacy efforts on CMDA priority issues- (eg. sanctity of life, right of conscience, gender transition in minors, end of life care, advocacy for the poor, fight against human trafficking, etc.)
- Leverage those strategic networks to educate and enhance CMDA advocacy efforts at the federal level
- Write CMDA public policy news releases and regular updates for: CMDA Point blog, CMDA Matters policy updates, Voice of Advocacy Podcast, The Advocacy Report newsletter, and Monthly advocacy report
- Write articles on policy issues on request for CMDA magazine.
- Prepare white papers on federal public policy issues related to CMDA priority issues
- Develop PowerPoint and other presentations on policy issues for advocacy staff and public dissemination
- Participate in resource development of Freedom2Care and org
QUALIFICATIONS
- Five years of public policy experience working on Capitol Hill in D.C.
- Personal integrity, service orientation and a strong and vibrant Christian faith
- Proven discernment in public policy analysis and promotion
- Strong writing skills
- An orientation toward goals and results, with proven efficiency and effectiveness
- Public policy degree or training
- Experience in media, communications or public relations
- Legal background
- Located in Washington D.C. area
