The school nurse responds to children in need of immediate health care while on school premises. The nurse treats minor illnesses and injuries and administers medications. - Ensure that all students undergo annual vision, hearing and health screenings with public school nurse.
- Provides health assessments.
- Communicate with student families regarding continuous illnesses (lice, chicken pox).
- Maintain student health records.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Initiates referral to parents, school personnel, or community for health interventions, remediation, and follow through.
- Utilizes existing health resources to provide appropriate care of students.
- Participate in professional development training as needed.
- Associates Degree in Nursing Required.
- Registered Nurse license.
- Current certification in CPR and AED.
- Minimum of 1 year in public health nursing, community health nursing, school health nursing or pediatric nursing preferred.
- Effective and concise communication style; displays strong interpersonal skills and organizational skills.
- High degree of skill with Microsoft Office Suites and other windows applications.
- The employee needs to communicate verbally and listen regularly.
- The ability to frequently stand, sit, walk, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
- Operate a computer and other office machinery such as a copy machine.
- Effective communication, both verbal and written, with students, parents, employees, and administration to exchange accurate information and build relationships.
