About This Position
ChristianaCare is searching for a Philanthropy Grants Director to collaborate with the Vice President and Philanthropy Team to secure philanthropic support for the mission of ChristianaCare by developing and writing persuasive grant proposals to public and private and public funding sources, foundations, corporations, and other grant-making organizations. The Director will write, assemble, and submit grant requests; establish and maintain personal contact and relationships with funders; conduct prospect research; and maintain a calendar of submissions and other deadlines.
The successful candidate is a systems thinker and excellent writer with experience in fundraising (or marketing and sales) and donor relations/stewardship. The Director collaborates with the Philanthropy Team (VP, frontline fundraisers, and operations team) to lead the comprehensive effort to seek philanthropic support through effective grant writing and to ensure donors experience high-quality interactions with ChristianaCare that will foster long-term engagement and investment. The Director has the opportunity to combine proven methods with creative new ideas to develop best practices in grant writing and donor relations/stewardship.
Responsibilities include....
Lead the philanthropic grants process (identification, application, reporting, stewardship) for the Office of Philanthropy focusing on service lines, community and health equity, and the system’s strategic priorities, capital needs, and other opportunities as the system deems appropriate.
Collaborate with key stakeholders/subject matter experts to draft/submit compelling grant proposals and gather supporting documents based upon the funding opportunity.
Assess requests for proposals (RFPs), gather and format information, including objectives, implementation, methods, timetables, staffing, standards of performance, and evaluation, and work with the Finance Department to ensure budget completion. Write drafts and prepare executive summaries, presentations, and final submissions.
Establish and maintain personal contact and relationships with funders.
Manage philanthropic grant submission deadlines and renewals.
Manage reporting requirements to ensure effective stewardship and compliance.
Track status and metrics to measure performance.

Education and experience requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in areas of Marketing, Communications, Business or related field required; Master’s preferred.
- Seven to ten years’ experience required in communications, fundraising, grant writing, preferably in an academic teaching hospital setting.
- Knowledge about Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania philanthropy sources is preferred.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
