Job Details
SCHEDULE:
- Day/Evening shift (Shift times are 7a-3:30p, 7:30a-4p, 8a-4:30p & 8:30a-5p or later if rooms are still occupied)
- No weekends and No holidays
- Able to flex working between the Newark and Wilmington Campuses
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
- Provides specific patient care during procedures to facilitate safe patient outcomes under the direction of a registered nurse
- Performs both tech and instrument processing duties to enhance the functioning of the department,
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs patient care duties that contribute to the efficient, safe operations of the unit which may include but are not limited to:
- Performing appropriate skin prep procedures adhering to Procedure Area policy/procedure
- Assisting patient care team in the transfer of patient to and from bed/stretcher
- Assisting patient care team in positioning patient on Procedure Area table or holding patient extremity for skin prep
- Transporting of the patient to and from Procedure Area or department
- Making bed/stretcher
- Provides necessary equipment/supplies for the patient care team which may include but not limited to:
- Restocking specialty carts with supplies
- Maintaining par level of supplies
- During Procedure Area room set, provides appropriate equipment/tables needed in the room
- Obtains case cart or instrument sets needed for procedure
- Performs between case cleaning procedures which may include but not limited to:
- Cleaning entire Procedure Area room
- Cleaning specialty equipment/instrumentation/ carts
- Returning used soft goods and instrument sets appropriately
- Appropriately handling contaminated instrument trays, carts, specimens and body fluids.
- Troubleshoots minor equipment problems and initiates service calls for broken equipment as needed.
- Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities to safely provide age-appropriate care to the patients served, under the direction of the RN.
- Responds to crisis situations and performs essential tasks under the direction of the RN.
- Practices professional telephone etiquette
- Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrates proficiency in required computer programs
- Effectively communicates with patients, families, visitors, employees, and physicians, utilizing courteous written and verbal communication.
- Performs instrument/scope processing including:
- Appropriate decontamination of used instruments/scopes according to manufacturer’s instructions for use (IFU).
- Appropriate inspection and packaging of instruments/scopes according to manufacturer’s instructions for use (IFU).
- Appropriate sterilization and/or high level disinfection (HLD) of instruments/scopes according to manufacturer’s instructions for use (IFU).
- Appropriate storage and handling of sterile or HLD items.
- Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices. Reports to the appropriate personnel, in a timely fashion, any unsafe activities, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employee, patients, and visitors
- Performs other related duties as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Computer skills
- Completion of SPD or scope processing training preferred
- Certification as SPD Technician within 12 months of hire or Endoscope Processing Certification within 6 months of Certification availability.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
- BLS required
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Able to work flexible hours for training and support of the needs of the unit.
