About This Position
ChristianaCare is searching for a Manager of Philanthropy Engagement to collaborate with the Vice President and Philanthropy Team to secure philanthropic support, effectively steward donors and attract prospective donors in support of the mission of ChristianaCare through donor-centric engagement to ensure donors and volunteers experience high-quality interactions with ChristianaCare that will foster long-term engagement and investment. Donor centric engagement includes, but is not limited to writing communications (newsletters, annual reports, acknowledgement letters, proposals, etc.) and overseeing the donor relations program for Christiana Care’s Office of Philanthropy.
Successful candidates need to be:
- A systems thinker
- Excellent writer with experience in fundraising (or marketing and sales)
- Have donor relations/stewardship experience
- Project management skills
The Manager, in collaboration with key team members, will oversee and engage key stakeholder groups including but not limited to the ChristianaCare Council of Advisors, Friends of Helen F. Graham, the Young Friends of ChristianaCare, and service line Leadership Councils. The Manager is responsible for developing and executing cultivation activities for partners across the ChristianaCare network resulting in philanthropic support, increased volunteerism, and informed advocacy and positive brand building.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to....
- In collaboration with fundraisers and senior leaders, help create compelling presentations and other solicitation materials to support major, principal and transformative gift conversations and solicitations.
- Write letters, impact reports, presentations materials, leave-behinds and other materials to help cultivate and steward our highest-level prospects and donors.
- Conduct thoughtful interviews with enterprise leaders, clinicians, donors and administrators to support content development.
- Serve as a trusted resource for gift officers, assisting with their development of effective solicitation materials and communications strategies.
- Partner with the marketing/communications team on scripting for videos and creating material for donor events, and social media platforms.
ChristianaCare Council of Advisors
- Oversee accuracy of Council information including contact information and up to date roster and materials.
- Lead semiannual (spring and fall/annual) meetings – manage meeting logistics and contracted vendors to support as needed.
- Develop semiannual meeting content for the Council of Advisors, Council Nominating Committee, and new Council member orientation:
- Meeting announcements, e-communications, written letters, annual ballot and voting materials etc.
- Meeting decks, talking points, and scripts for Council Chair, Council Vice Chair and additional meeting speakers as needed.
Leadership Councils (currently Heart and Vascular, Swank, Cancer Center)
- Oversee Leadership Council meetings – manage meeting logistics, develop meeting content including decks and talking points as needed, and draft and distribute meeting follow-up including detailed minutes.
- Partner with the Philanthropy team leads and Chairs of the Centers on philanthropic priorities and strategic plans for the Centers.
- Partner with additional clinical leaders to source grateful patients and potential donors for the Centers.
Young Friends of ChristianaCare
- Coordinate monthly meetings and engagement opportunities with the leaders and Young Friends.
- Partner with four founders and Co-Chairs of the ChristianaCare Council of Advisors to successfully engage local high school students in the Young Friends program.
- Manage annual student application process and student enrollment – requires developing application and partnering with External Affairs for posting and then aggregating data to be shared with the Co-Chairs who determine student enrollment.
- Manage all communications to accepted and returning Young Friends students including all e-communications, meeting notifications etc.
- Oversee quarterly Young Friends meetings – manage meeting logistics, engage guest, and keynote speakers from across the ChristianaCare health system, develop meeting content including decks and scripts for Co-Chairs, and draft and distribute meeting follow-up as needed.
- Identify annual philanthropy project for students and manage process for student engagement.

Education and experience requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in areas of Marketing, Communications, Business or related field required; Master’s preferred.
- Five to seven years’ experience in communications, fundraising, required, preferably in an academic teaching hospital setting.
- Knowledge about Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania philanthropy sources is preferred.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
