PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Vice Chair (VC), Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is expected to provide clinical and transformational direction to the Obstetrics and Gynecology groups for both inpatient and ambulatory. In concert with the Chair, develops programs that impact the service line and ensures a uniform approach to the care of patients across all specialties in the service line. In conjunction with the Chair, the VC represents the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at system-wide and department-wide activities in the Chair’s absence, and on an ongoing basis at regularly scheduled activities such as department meetings, faculty meetings, etc.
FTE REQUIREMENT:
- This role includes the following amount of dedicated time to conduct VC activities: .2 FTE
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides administrative and clinical direction to the physicians and advanced practice clinicians in the Women’s Service Line.
- Develops and maintains appropriate policies and procedures.
- Works closely with leaders from all groups on developing and implementing a uniform approach to patient care and on programs and process improvement.
- Ensures representation on key system-level committees and meetings with the Medical Group, Campus leadership and senior leadership stakeholders.
- Supports and mentors physicians as leaders within and external to Christiana Care.
- Participates in the development of a formal faculty (ambulatory and inpatient) mentoring program and provides mentorship to other key physician leaders.
- Participates in Women’s and Children’s Service Line initiatives.
- As directed by the Chair, participates in the implementation and maintenance of transformational projects within the service line such as projects relating to patient flow, the discharge process, patient satisfaction, quality improvement initiatives, transitions of care and telemedicine.
- As directed by the Chair, participates in medical education programs and resident recruitment efforts.
- Participates in the identification of department faculty and other personnel needs and in the recruitment and retention of well trained and competent faculty and other attending physicians.
- Represents the department/service line in interactions with other departments and service lines within the institution and in regional and national organizations.
- Assists the Chair and Corporate Director in the financial management of the department.
- Maintains good employee, physician and nurse relations.
- Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices.
- Reports to the Chair, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
SCOPE, PURPOSE, AND FREQUENCY OF CONTACTS:
Frequent contact with Chair, The Medical Group leadership, hospital senior leadership, medical staff and other employees, as well as patients, families of patients and personnel from other hospitals, government and regulatory agencies and vendors.

- As applicable, physicians in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Successful completion of an approved medical school curriculum.
- Active board certification in Obstetrics/Gynecology.
- Advanced degree (e.g. MPH, MBA, MHA) preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- Skilled in the practice of general internal medicine and in particular, hospital medicine.
- Knowledge of hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to reason, prioritize and problem solve.
- Ability to conduct effective meetings, lectures, seminars, etc.
- Ability to lead in clinical, administrative and educational areas.
- Skilled in conflict resolution and team building.
- Skilled in oral and written communication, including public speaking.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Delaware and maintain active board certification in internal medicine.

Education and Experience Requirements:
1. Post-graduate degree from an accredited medical institution.
2. Completion of accredited OB/GYN-residency.
3. Completion of Urogynecology fellowship.
4. Extended knowledge of OB/GYN-related issues.
5. Board-eligible or Board-certified.
6. Active staff status in the Christiana Care OB/GYN Department.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
a. Knowledge and skills in the principles and practice of obstetrics and gynecology and urogynecology.
b. Knowledge of departmental patient care procedures.
c. Knowledge of RRC program requirements for obstetrics and gynecology.
d. Ability to oversee and advise resident physicians in their care of patients.
e. Ability to interact on a professional basis with supervisors, peers and other team members.
f. Commitment of support of Joint Commission regulators and to quality indicators in obstetrics and in gynecologic surgery.
