What are the responsibilities and job description for the Insurance Specialist - Endocrinology position at Christie Clinic?
Christie Clinic's department of Endocrinology is seeking a full-time Insurance Specialist at the Windsor clinic in Champaign from Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm.
Duties include assisting the department by scheduling appointments, obtains prior authorizations from insurance companies, filling in during the absence of the receptionist, and direct patient care in the clinic office setting.
JOB DUTIES: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned.)
- Maintain an organized work area. (Filing patient orders, routers, etc.)
- Complete assigned EMR tasks.
- Act in the absence of the receptionist by answering phones, scheduling appointments, etc.
- Triage phone calls.
- Accurately obtain the necessary information to process and submit prior authorization requests.
- Accurately determine and document if specific services are covered benefits.
- Proficiently utilize third party payer portals, insurance payer portals, or governmental payer portals to process submission of prior authorization requests.
- Utilize phone calls for prior authorization submission only when unable to perform on portals.
- Accurately update insurance information, authorization status, and any other pertinent information required for scheduling.
- Advocate for patients/providers by processing referrals in a time sensitive manner.
- Scheduling patient appointments (including entering lab orders, imaging orders and referrals).
- Clean and restock rooms at the end of the day as needed.
- Assist with MOA duties as needed. Maintain and update patient medical record upon visit including allergies, medications, etc. and enter into the electronic medical record.
- Use flag system per standard work.
- Complete lab order entries.
- A1c and Blood sugar testing
- Download meters for appointments.
- Perform related work as required.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Demands include sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, stretching and lifting up to 25 pounds. Hearing within, or correctable to, normal range, vision correctable to 20/20 and manual dexterity is also required.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in a clinical office setting with possible exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, hazardous waste, bodily fluids and other waste common to a health care environment. Requirements may include working irregular hours.
PAY AND BENEFITS:
The estimated pay range for this position is exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related criteria.
