What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant/Receptionist - Cardiology - Float position at Christie Clinic?
Christie Clinic's department of Cardiology is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant/Receptionist from Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm at the University clinic in Champaign. This positon will require travel to other clinics including Bloomington on Empire and Danville at the Riverfront to support the Cardiology department.
Duties include performance of skills through the delivery of patient care using a systematic patient assessment. Further duties include greeting clinic patients upon arrival, assisting with the check in process, answering incoming phone calls, scheduling appointments and assisting with the checkout or rescheduling process. The receptionist will also serve as a liaison between patient and medical support staff.
JOB DUTIES: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned.)
- Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments prior to appointment.
- Clean and restock rooms at the end of the day.
- Perform chart preparation according to department standards.
- Maintain and update patient medical record upon visit including allergies, medications, etc. and enter into the electronic medical record.
- Appropriate use of flag system per standard work in department.
- Review and respond to the electronic medical record work list per department standard work.
- Complete lab order entries and appropriately handle patient specimens (including communication to patient per department standard work), as needed.
- Assists providers with procedures/surgery, as needed.
- Assist in patient education relating to medication instructions, procedures, wound care or any other necessary information pertaining to patient care.
- Travel to satellite locations as directed by department leadership.
- Greet patients and visitors in an efficient, professional and courteous manner and solicit customer feedback to improve service.
- Demonstrate the ability to promptly answer a high volume of phone calls and schedule patient appointments with providers.
- Provide check-in process for patients per standard work
- Verify and update necessary demographic information and insurance information.
- Maintain provider schedules.
- Keep a neat and orderly work and lobby area.
- Obtain faxes and sort by provider and place in the appropriate provider’s box.
- Schedule new consultations that arrive via fax or work queue.
- Complete MOA/PSR in-baskets and work queue tasks.
- Maintain relevant office supplies for department effectiveness.
- Perform related work as required.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Demands include sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, stretching and lifting up to 75 pounds. Hearing within, or correctable to, a normal range, vision correctable to 20/20 and manual dexterity for the operation of office equipment is required.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in a clinical setting with possible exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, hazardous waste, bodily fluids and other waste common to a health care environment. Requirements may include working irregular hours.

The estimated pay range for this position is exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related criteria.
