The Role This role supports the Classic Art cluster in New York with all operations, sale and people management as well as implementing the strategic goals of the business, realizing department objectives and helping to drive profitability. This role reports to Regional Managing Director, Classic Art and directly manages the Sale and Department Coordinators. Specific duties & responsibilities will include but are not limited to Management Management Lead and directly supervise Sale Coordinators and Department Coordinators: responsibility include interviewing, hiring employees; planning, assigning and directing work Partner with HR and/or RMD to conduct performance reviews, objective setting and talent management, design succession plans Ensure team have clear objectives and development plans Strategically assess sale calendar and allocate resource to ensure sales can be delivered effectively and managed to deadlines Work with Specialists to ensure Cataloguers are working effectively across the sales Partner with RMD on staff development Lead, manage and communicate any department changes necessary in coordination with RMD. Chair weekly Sale Coordinator Meeting for group Lead the coordination of tours and exhibitions for sale highlights and liaise with centralized tour coordinator Lead sale coordination function within department to ensure compliance are met Act as point of escalation for Sale Coordinator to resolve client and partner issues, as needed Work closely with Heads of Sale to meet the needs of the department Additional responsibilities and projects as assigned by RMD Financial Management & Sale Related activities Oversee and approve consignment agreements within level of authority Assist RMD with preparation of SIFs and scenarios when negotiating consignment deals Assists RMD to provide necessary information to the Finance Business Partner for financial reporting (e.g. Rolling Sale Forecasts updates, budgeting, and quarterly forecasts) Work with Sale Coordinators to review and approve: Lot Withdrawals (including associated fees and charges), cancelled sales below a certain threshold, post-sale settlement amendments, client settlements, damage claim costs, etc. Manage catalogue elements to budget provided by Marketing Approve purchase orders Approve property movement and associated costs Approve all catalogue elements related to compliance and general sale information Review client charges to ensure costs are correctly captured and entered, acting as a point of escalation for over budget spend Work with RMD to oversee the Sale Coordinators’ effective liaison with Marketing & Proposals to ensure all proposals align with the marketing strategy Inventory control: proactively work with Specialists, Sale Coordinators and Logistics to clear old inventory and action property in breach of Inventory Policy Ensure the whole team including self are trained in telephone bidding and are able to support sales as required Cross departmental Collaboration Representative of the department in discussion and coordination with other departments for cross category sales and consignments Liaise with other departmental Business Managers and Heads of Sale Management to leverage pool of Sales Coordinator across departments when needed Maintain relationships with critical auction business partners (ie.
