Each city teacher in grades PK-8 who works in a city school for one year shall receive a bonus of $3500 total. This bonus will be payable to each teacher in two (2) lump sums per year totaling $3500. One lump sum shall be paid by the end of December 2024 for $1500 and the other by the end of June 2025 for $2000.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The AVID elective teacher is a skilled educator grounded in relationships. AVID, Advancement via Individual Determination, is an academic acceleration program that aims to prepare students in the academic middle for four-year colleges. The AVID elective curriculum features writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, reading, notetaking, and study skills. Because AVID elective students also enroll in at least one rigorous course including honors or AP, the AVID elective teacher is responsible for supporting students' academic success across content areas.

Qualifications
- Must hold or be eligible for State of Delaware Certification in content area (e.g. elementary, math, science...)
- Five or more years successful teaching experience as a secondary teacher
- Experience as a guidance counselor preferred
- Ability to collaborate with staff, administrators, and families
- Demonstrated leadership abilities
- Knowledge of the current secondary curriculum
- Exhibit the ability to analyze data related to the success of students in high school.
- Demonstrate an understanding of high school dropout prevention programs.
- Must be able to stand and work continuously for a minimum of 4 hours per workday.
- Minimum lifting requirements- 50 pounds (with assistance).
- Must be able to use arms and hands without restrictions to accommodate the physical, mobility, and ambulatory needs of students.

Responsibilities
- Advocate for AVID students' access to and success in rigorous courses.
- Assess, identify, and implement appropriate intervention strategies.
- Assist students with academic and testing requirements and provide guidance on tests.
- Assist with job and college applications and help students prepare for college and job interviews.
- Collaborate with stakeholders (AVID students, AVID parents, AVID counselors, the AVID coordinator, the AVID administrator, and teachers) to develop an AVID program based in a college-going culture.
- Collaborate with tutors to effectively implement the tutorial process.
- Collect and analyze AVID student data and regularly monitor AVID students' academic progress.
- Compile data for tracking and evaluation purposes and maintain student records.
- Demonstrate an understanding of high school graduation requirements.
- Establish and maintain high expectations for AVID students' achievement.
- Facilitate coordinated communication among the building principal, teachers and other resource staff on dropout prevention/intervention methods and results.
- Help students identify colleges and careers best suited to their strengths and interests.
- Maintain contact with students to support their interests, goals, and talents.
- Provide mentoring and support to specified at-risk and AVID students.
- Provide outreach and support to students and families to increase parent and student engagement in education.
- Teach and promote the use of AVID instructional strategies across content areas.
- Work with students to ensure that they progress successfully toward attainment of a high school diploma, especially those who are AVID students, economically disadvantaged, identified as special needs students, and/or identified as at risk for dropping out.
