Qualifications
- Must hold or be eligible for State of Delaware Certification- Secondary School Counselor
- Must be able to stand and work continuously for a minimum of 4 hours per workday
- Minimum lifting requirements- 50 pounds (with assistance).
- Must be able to use arms and hands without restrictions to accommodate the physical, mobility, and ambulatory needs of students.

Responsibilities
- Collects, utilizes, and disseminates current educational and occupational information.
- Assists students to identify and to determine the significance of their pattern of abilities, achievements, interests, and potentials.
- Organizes relevant student records and handles them with discretion and according to professional standards, ethic and the confidentiality laws.
- Stay abreast of the laws, policies, and procedures that govern the schools. The counselor also participates in professional associations and upgrades professional knowledge and skills when needed.
- Conducts individual and small group counseling session with students.
- Conducts group guidance classes when necessary with an organized and pertinent program.
- Act as student advocate in order to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations.
- Participates in follow-up procedures concerning all aspects of the special services
- Collaborate with other staff members to perform clinical assessments and develop treatment plans.
- Serve as case manager for students as needed.
- Conducts conferences and consults with the students, parents, and professional associates.
- Document counseling notes, prepare reports and maintain confidentiality of records relating to students' treatment.
- The school counselor along with the Mental Health team establishes the school counseling program and develops activities and resources to implement and evaluate the program.
- Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students concerning their academic and behavioral progress.
- Acts in ways, which are likely to promote student's feelings of self-worth.
- Encourages students to behave in accordance with classroom and school rules.
- Keeps accurate records and makes reports as required.
- Develop and implement a Guidance Counselor Plan annually
- Perform other duties as requested by administration to meet the needs of the students.
