Summary/Objective
The Lead Chemist is responsible for maintaining the performance and compliance of electroplating baths and wastewater treatment processes to ensure high-quality production standards and regulatory adherence.
Essential Functions
- Maintain electroplating baths using various methods to ensure optimal performance.
- Analyze chemical composition using titration, atomic absorption spectrometry, X-ray analysis, Hull Cell, and other techniques.
- Monitor and maintain associated equipment such as heaters, filter pumps, air agitation systems, rectifiers, and other electroplating machinery.
- Develop and maintain relationships with proprietary chemical vendors and prepare samples for evaluation.
- Maintain detailed records of all measurable characteristics of electroplating solutions.
- Track and manage chemical inventory; order additional chemicals as needed.
- Process and treat wastewater from electroplating operations to meet discharge requirements.
- Operate the wastewater treatment facility for cyanide destruction and metal removal in accordance with Discharge Permit limits.
- Maintain accurate logs of wastewater treatment batches to ensure compliance.
- Communicate with the Water Authority to coordinate sampling and inspections.
- Arrange hazardous waste profiles, manifests, and shipments with disposal and/or recycling vendors.
- Generate and submit periodic compliance reports to the Water Authority and state regulatory agencies.
- Collaborate closely with our Arizona operations regarding wastewater water treatments.
- Experience in chemical analysis and wastewater treatment processes preferred
- Familiarity with electroplating equipment and chemical maintenance methods
- Excellent recordkeeping and documentation skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
