Primary Purpose:
Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, and according to established organizational and departmental policies and procedures, responsible for the cleaning activities that assure the facility is maintained in a manner that is consistent with organizational and customer expectations and standards for cleanliness, aesthetics, and safety.
Essential Functions:
- Performs routine manual housekeeping work cleaning areas within any of the Museum facilities.
- Cleans, sanitizes, sweeps, wipes, dusts, waxes, vacuums, scrubs, polishes, washes windows, and operates power machines to clean, wash, shampoos carpet, strips, waxes, buffs and spray buffs floors in all Museum facilities, including galleries, offices, and rest rooms.
- Empties trash.
- Reports repairs needed to supervisors including broken or cracked window panes, leaky faucets, toilets.
- Properly uses small hand tools and equipment and a variety of cleaning solutions.
- Observes prescribed safety regulations.
- Follows proper facility and exhibition maintenance procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Required Education/Experience:
High School Diploma preferred. Must have 1 years of experience in commercial cleaning. Must be able to read and understand written or oral instructions and communicate effectively with colleagues and visitors, including members of the general public. Must be flexible and willing to take initiative in identifying and performing work that needs to be done. Must be detail oriented, a self-starter, able to stay on task, and able to multi-task.
Working Conditions:
Works in a variety of environments, including offices, galleries, and outside areas of the Museum. Will be subject to frequent interruption. Work outside and in inclement weather conditions may be required, including heat, cold, and humidity. May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and vibration. Must be willing and able to wear Personal Protective Equipment as required by established Safety standards.
Physical Requirements:
Requires the physical ability to continuously walk, stand, bend, twist, kneel, up to 90% of the time. Requires constant use of hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, tools, machinery, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to routinely lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 100 pounds or more with assistance, 50-75 without assistance. Specific vision required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Cleaning carts and equipment require the ability to push and pull objects weighing up to 200 pounds on casters or rollers.
