Job Summary:
The Food Service Assistant plays a crucial role in delivering healthy meals to young children, ensuring food quality and safety standards are met.
This position involves assisting the Food Service Coordinator in food production, packaging, and delivery while maintaining compliance with health regulations and dietary needs for children.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Food Service Coordinator to prepare food service for the facility
- Set equipment temperatures according to product requirements
- Pack items as needed
- Attend meetings to review menu, catering, and food service techniques
- Complete dining room checklists and waste tracking sheets
- Perform dishwashing, cleaning, and sanitation duties to ensure child and staff well-being
- Remove trash from kitchen and service areas
- Comply with departmental HACCP/Food Safety procedures and initiatives to maintain food integrity and prevent illness
- Disseminate snacks to children before snack times
- Evaluate children's dietary needs and accommodate allergies when preparing food
- Conduct safety checks and implement corrective procedures as necessary
- Comply with health regulations
- Set up food at catered functions and events
- Load and unload catering van for external events
- Report maintenance concerns
- Prepare documentation for the food safety program
- Respond to allergy-related questions from health professionals and parents
- Compile accurate data on food-related items
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Prior food service experience and/or knowledge of various food products
- First Aid, CPR, AED certifications
- Valid NSF ServSafe Certification or ability to obtain within six months
- Customer service skills
- Able to maintain accurate records and follow instructions
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills
