Job Overview
The Engineering Manager will be responsible for technical authority, leadership, management support, analysis, planning and overall supervision and coordination of activities and operations within the Engineering Services Department. Directly supervises engineering staff, including training managerial functions and human resources including: performance evaluations, determining and executing individual development goals, planning team learning plans, disciplinary actions, approval of leave and timesheets, and job recruitment. (creating job requisitions, analyze applicant data, conducting applicant interviews, and hiring of personnel under the direction of the Director).
This position reports directly to the Director of Engineering Services and is the backup in the Director’s absence and supports both Stennis Space Center and the Michoud Assembly Facility.

Responsibilities
Essential Duties & Job Functions:
- Supports the Director of Engineering with the planning, design, and implementation of engineering projects within the organization. This includes Electrical, Design, Mechanical, Construction, Product Data Lifecycle Management, Environmental Management, HAZMAT and Environmental Health.
- Oversee the daily operation of the department, assuring departmental goals are accomplished. Leads and manages the engineering team, providing technical guidance and training.
- Develops and implements engineering strategies, policies, and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Assesses and evaluates technical operations and systems, proposing recommendations and solutions for improvement.
- Oversee and administer the operation of assigned sections and programs and ensures compliance with federal, state, and local guidelines, requirements, and regulations. Manage, review, and report on departmental workload data metrics to the Director of Engineering for conformance to contractual requirements and areas of special emphasis. Participate in the development and administration of the Engineering Services Department annual budget; participate in the forecast of funds and needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures; implements adjustments.
- Select, train, motivate, and evaluate assigned personnel; provide or coordinates staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies.
- Oversee safety programs for assigned sections and work groups; assist with action planning for safety programs.
- Provide responsible staff assistance to the Director of Engineering Services; conduct a variety of organizational strategy studies, investigations, and operational studies; recommend modifications to assigned programs, policies, and procedures as appropriate.
- Participate in the preparation and review of a variety of reports; conducts studies and prepares reports for current and long-range engineering projects.
- Attend a variety of boards, commissions and committees; prepare and present staff reports and other necessary correspondence.
- Participate in providing customer service to internal and external customers; respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive inquiries and complaints.
- Works closely with other department leaders to coordinate project goals and objectives.
- Keeps up-to-date with the latest engineering trends, techniques, and methods, implementing them into operations where necessary
- As delegated by the Director of Engineering serve as designee to NASA Chief Engineer as Engineering Technical Authority Liaison.
- Serve in acting capacity in absence of the Director of Engineering.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Mandatory:
- BSc/MSc degree in Engineering.
- Eight (8) years of work experience as an Engineering Supervisor or similar leadership role in engineering.
- Demonstrated ability in project management and knowledge of the principles of management and supervision. Demonstrated budget preparation and management experience.
- Advanced understanding of engineering principles and procedures.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and team management.
- Proficiency in CAD software.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) at an intermediate level.
- Valid state issued driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
- Ability to successfully pass any background checks and/or drug testing required on the contract.
- PE Preferred.
- U.S. Citizenship.
