Provides basic helper support for construction and/or facility maintenance operations in the Construction, Maintenance, and Operations Branch of the White Sands Test Facilities Department.
This Union position is located at the NASA/White Sands Test Facility in Las Cruces NM. We offer a competitive wage, pension plan, leave/health benefits, and 401K. We are looking to hire the right person in the right place! Consider joining our team.
$21.50 hourly, with an additional $3.26 COLA for all hours worked.

Responsibilities
Essential Duties & Job Functions:
- Primary duties will include assistance to Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, Heavy Equipment, Construction, or Facility Maintenance technicians performing a wide variety of work supporting the NASA White Sands Test Facility or other associated government agencies.
- Must be able to follow basic verbal or written instructions.
- Must work well as an individual or as a member of a team.
- Must demonstrate a commitment to safety in the workplace including proper use of PPE and compliance with all safety polices and instructions.
- Must be able to meet certification requirements for Hantavirus prevention, fall protection, forklift operations, man lift operations, and confined space entry.
- Performs grounds care and maintenance including basic irrigation and weed control.
- Must be able to meet certification requirements for Hazardous Waste Operations (HAZWOPER) and or asbestos remediation as required by management.
- Must perform quality work in a timely manner and maintain work area in a neat, orderly, and safe manner.
- Must perform other duties as required or assigned by management.
Mandatory:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Must have a minimum of one (1) year of directly related experience in facility maintenance and/or construction, or a minimum of one (1) year related experience in the electrical, HVAC, heavy equipment, or plumbing crafts (commercial or residential).
- Must have experience in the use of common hand and power tools used in the maintenance and construction crafts.
- Must pass a physical examination as determined by the White Sands Test Facility (WSTF) site for the job
- Must have the physical ability to climb ladders and work on elevated
- Must have the physical ability to regularly lift 40 lbs. (occasionally lift 50 lbs.).
- Must have the ability to work in confined spaces and be capable of working with a respirator as required.
- U.S. Citizenship
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Operation of government owned vehicles and mobile equipment is required.
