Overview
At the direction of the Dental Director, the Dentist will diagnose and treat conditions involving the teeth and gums, provide preventative dental care, and oral health education to patients.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, injuries and malformations of the oral cavity and surrounding hard and soft tissues, performs oral cancer screenings.
- Treats oral manifestations for systemic diseases.
- Collaborates with patients’ medical team and provides consults/referrals as needed.
- Provides routine dental care to patients. Including, but not limited to, examinations, general operative procedures, prosthodontics, removable prosthetics, oral surgery, endodontics, preventive and oral health education.
- Orders and interprets dental x-rays and other diagnostic tests.
- Administers local anesthetic for effective management of pain.
- Prescribes medication for infections or pain, as needed.
- Effectively communicates with patients about their oral health related conditions.
- Educates patients on how to care for their teeth and the promotion of oral health disease prevention. Presents treatment plans in a way that is clear and concise. Answers patient’s questions regarding their care.
- Provides referrals to dental specialists as needed, in accordance with the dental clinic’s referral protocols.
- Collaborates with dental team for case management of dental patients
- Uses electronic health record to review patient dental chart, health history, medical/dental conditions and documents to accurately and completely reflect care provided at each visit.
- Attends monthly staff meetings.
- Adheres to infection control policies and procedures.
- Ensures all applicable licensures are up-to-date.
- Attends continuing education as required by the California Dental Board.
- Attends community outreach events, as directed by Dental Director.
- Participates in program planning for the Dental Department, including development of goals and objectives.
- Maintains patient confidentiality.

- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Licensed with the California Dental Board as a Dentist (DDS or DMD).
- Current DEA License, CPR(BLS) certification.
- Two years of experience as a dentist, preferred.
- English-Spanish bilingual skills are highly desirable.
- Basic computer proficiency utilizing Microsoft applications, e-mail and Internet.
- Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems; Nextgen experience is a plus.
- Experience and sensitivity in working with culturally diverse communities, including the ability to relate to and understand the special and specific needs of Native Americans.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret various documents, including patient charts, records, policies and procedures.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from patients.
- Native American hiring preference applies.
