Overview
Under the direct supervision of the Cultural and Language Programs Manager, the Language and Culture Teacher is responsible for learning and teaching the Samala Chumash language, history, and culture to tribal citizens and public education.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for teaching, developing, and planning language and cultural material and programs.
- Prepares lesson plans and coursework that meets curriculum requirements and learning objectives.
- Evaluates classroom performance and provides feedback to the Cultural Director.
- Responsible for learning and passing Samala language and culture modules.
- Participates in community events, such as workshops and special events.
- Upholds a work environment that promotes teamwork, partnership, recognition, mutual respect, and collaboration, while role modeling the company values, behaviors, and culture of One.Team.Chumash.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED Certificate.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, or Certificate of Education, or License of Education are preferred.
- Two years of previous teaching experience is preferred.
- Intermediate computer proficiency utilizing Microsoft applications, email and internet.
- Native American hiring preference applies.
