What are the responsibilities and job description for the Faith Formation Coordinator position at Church of the Foothills United Church of Christ?
The Faith Formation Coordinator manages volunteers, plans programming, and oversees all activities which promote the faith development of children, youth, younger and older adults at Church of the Foothills UCC. This includes children’s Sunday School on Sunday mornings, Messy Church, and other Faith Formation activities.
The position will be 10 hours each week. The Faith Formation Coordinator reports directly to the Senior Pastor and works in collaboration with the Faith Formation Board and related teams.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/Some college preferred
- At least two years’ experience working with children and teens, preferably in a Christian Education setting
- Ability to pass required criminal background check
- Knowledgeable about the Christian faith, Biblical stories, and religious diversity
- Commitment to the progressive and Open and Affirming ministry of Church of the Foothills
- Respect for all types of diversity

- Energy and passion for progressive Christian faith, and forming an inclusive, open and growing community
- Ability to use or learn to use basic technology such as Google Office, Microsoft Office, Canva, Zoom, Facebook, email, etc.
- Ability to function as part of a team and be proactive in reaching out to recruit and support volunteers.
- Excellent communication skills (oral, written, one on one, and in large groups)
- Ability to manage a range of activities and provide preparation and follow-up with volunteers to reach desired goals
- Ability to relate to children and youth in developmentally appropriate ways.
1. Sunday School (preschool through high school):
- Develop, with the Faith Formation Board and Sunday School team, the configuration of Children’s Sunday school classes to be offered.
- Recruit volunteer teachers and assistants for each class. (There must be two assigned to each class.)
- Assist in training teachers and other volunteers in the Sunday school curriculum and routines
- Work with the Faith Formation Board to determine Sunday school curriculum and ensure access for all staff and volunteers.
- Be present on Sunday mornings to ensure all classes have staff and that all children are supervised. Delegate a substitute if unable to be present on a Sunday morning.
- Arrange for Live Scan certification of all staff working with children and teens. Work with the Sr. Pastor to maintain the list to ensure all volunteers are certified.
- Work with Sunday school teachers to assure adherence to continuity of curriculum and assist with supplies and support as needed.
- Procure needed supplies as requested by teachers.
2. Faith Formation Events:
- Work with Faith Formation Board to determine Faith Formation activities for youth (pre-teens and teens), young adults and older adults.
- Assist Faith Formation Board in recruiting people to serve on identified Activity Teams, and Assist with recruitment of leaders for teams.
- Provide support to Activity Team leaders, as needed, serving as liaison to Faith Formation Board and pastor
- Assist with procurement of needed supplies and snacks for Faith Formation events, and facilitate reimbursement to volunteers
- Attend Faith Formation meetings or arrange for leadership coverage.
- Serve as co-leader for monthly Messy Church.
- Supervised directly by the Senior Pastor
