What are the responsibilities and job description for the Facilities Maintenance Custodian position at Church of the Holy Spirit?
Position Type:
Full-Time (40 Hrs./Week; 8:30-5:30)
The Facilities Maintenance Custodian for St. John the Baptist School and Church of the Holy Spirit will be responsible for ensuring the facilities are clean, safe and in good working order.
Essential Job Functions:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function.
Cleaning and Sanitation
- Sweeping, mopping and vacuuming floors
- Cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, including replenishing supplies
- Cleaning and dusting furniture, walls, windows and other surfaces
- Emptying trash receptacles and disposing of waste
- Cleaning and maintaining floors (waxing, polishing, buffing, etc.)
- Emergency cleaning
Minor Maintenance
- Making minor repairs to furniture, fixtures, and equipment
- Replacing light bulbs and fixtures
- Unclogging drains and sinks
- Reporting necessary repairs to management
Event Support
- Setting up and taking down cafeteria tables for student lunch
- Setting up and taking down chairs, tables, etc. for school events such as concerts, programs, etc.
Supply Management
- Ordering, stocking and maintaining cleaning and toiletry supplies
- Ensuring proper storage and use of cleaning equipment
- Keep janitor closets in neat, clean and orderly condition at all times
Miscellaneous Tasks
- Assist with groundskeeping tasks (snow removal, mowing, etc.)
- Perform non-technical inspections of facilities
- Assist Facility Management with larger projects
Marginal Functions:
Although not essential to the position, the individual may be asked to perform other duties.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
An individual qualified for this job must:
- Complete Safe Environment Training on an annual basis, including a background check every five years
Qualifications:
An individual qualified for this job must have and maintain the following qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Practicing Catholic with a passion for being a disciple of Christ preferred
- Strong understanding of facility operations and management
- Attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well with church staff, school staff, and parishioners.
- Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.

- This position will require the individual to stand, walk, and use hands to operate equipment for long periods of time. May be required to lift supplies, furniture and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. Vision requirements include the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
