JOB TITLE
- Elementary Reading Support Teacher
MUST DO
- Provide a dynamic and effective learning experience for students struggling with reading, fostering a Christ-centered environment that promotes academic excellence while addressing individual student needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide strategic assessment, planning, development, and instruction that supports students in meeting curricular goals and objectives.
- Provide support to classroom teachers with the language arts curriculum.
- Assist with the training of teachers for benchmark assessments, including preparing necessary materials.
- Help equip new staff members with the necessary training and feedback to prepare them to teach reading at LCS
- Progress monitor qualified students in Literacy First.
- Work with teachers to come up with a strategic plan on district-approved data.
- Collaborate with the Literacy Team to debrief assessment data, identify trends, and create instructional plans for struggling students.
- Attend meetings, initiate new strategies, and provide information to improve student outcomes.
- Attend parent/teacher conferences in the fall and spring to discuss student progress in reading support and provide feedback.
- Use district-approved curriculum for instruction and use established standards to guide and inform instructional practices.
- Help interpret academic reports to the school and families.
- Coordinate support services with families, teachers, and school, managing schedules, documentation, processes, and liaison between support services and teachers.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and up-to-date records for all students.
- Communicate in a timely and professional manner with staff, students, and families regarding student progress, upcoming events, and necessary clarifications
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, Literacy, Special Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred)
- Valid teaching certification or licensure for elementary education
- Experience in literacy instruction and supporting students with reading difficulties
- Strong knowledge of language arts curriculum and assessment tolls, including MAP and Lit First
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive student information with discretion
- Passion for teaching and supporting students in a Christ-centered educational environment
- Training on Orton Gillingham preferred
WORK SCHEDULE
- 40 hours per week
- Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM
