The county pays 100% of the retirement contribution to PERS on your behalf (33.5% over and above your wage, equivalent to $16,300/year). The county pays 100% of the employee-only health insurance premiums (equivalent to $12,115/year). AND you will not have Social Security taken out of your paycheck, which results in an additional 6% take-home pay (equivalent to $2,900/year). The county also provides $50,000 of term life insurance, which the employee can increase if they want to.

Under general supervision, performs a broad range of clerical and technical duties related to the issuing of building permits; receives plans for review and performs review on routine residential construction; accepts, processes and tracks inspection requests; and performs other work as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
Positions in this class require a definable body of knowledge and skills pertaining to the review of building plans and permit applications and the performance of field inspections. This class is distinguished from Building Inspector in that the Permit Technician handles administrative tasks and processes permits along with performing some field inspections while the Building Inspector’s primary responsibility is performing building inspections and conducting field investigations to ensure compliance with relevant codes, regulations, and laws.

- Assists the public in acquiring the necessary information regarding the process to follow and identifying the agencies that must be contacted in order to be in compliance with the planning, zoning and building regulations; explains the rules, regulations and procedures to potential applicants and the general public; answers questions and provides information regarding current procedures.
- Receives and reviews relevant documents, applications or records; creates files and routes relevant documents, applications, or records for review, comments, and approval; updates databases and files with relevant information.
- Confirms that all required document, plans, specifications, forms, and supporting materials have been submitted; advises of any omissions and potential revisions based upon a technical review of the packet of materials assembled; calculates fees and other costs associated with the process and collects fees; issues permits that do not require technical review by the Building Official; processes and tracks inspection requests.
- Reviews routine residential construction; may perform field inspections, as assigned.
- Receives and screens visitors and telephone calls, and takes messages and schedules appointments; types correspondence and communicates with appropriate parties concerning a variety of departmental issues; maintains the accounting records for the department; receives and processes payments; makes bank deposits; assists in the preparation of the annual budget.
- Opens and distributes mail; processes outgoing mail; prepares requisitions and performs other general office support services.
- Operates standard office equipment, including word processors, personal computers, network or online computers, fax machines, copy machines and telephones.
- Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the department’s service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
- Represents the County with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.
Education and Experience:
High School diploma AND two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience working with the public in a customer service role and knowledge of ICC Building Codes; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

- Documentation of inspections and follow through in code discrepancies and/or violations.

- Compiling and summarizing information and preparing periodic or special reports.
- Using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:
- ICC certification as a Permit Technician or the ability to obtain certification within 12 months.
- Nevada driver’s license required.
