SUMMARY:
The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for managing and maintaining enterprise databases, ensuring their smooth and secure operation. This role involves designing and creating relational databases, optimizing performance, managing access controls, implementing encryption for data security and implementing backup and recovery strategies to protect data. Additionally, this role will assist in troubleshooting database issues, performing routine maintenance, collaborating with cross-functional teams to support applications and integrate new features, ensuring the databases align with business goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Ensure the successful and continued operation of the enterprise systems and services
- Deployment and management of physical and virtual server environments
- Monitor and respond to systems outages as required
- Participate in on-call rotation for Incident management and escalation
- Work as a member of a project team to deliver new business systems
- Complete status, systems utilization, and other required reports for management
- Work to maintain standardized methods and processes across all properties
- Build and monitor database backup schedules and retention policies.
- Configure and support SQL Server replication between properties.
- Monitor SQL Server counters and troubleshoot performance issues related to, but not limited to, low memory, high CPU utilization, index fragmentation, missing indexes, disk contention, blocking sessions, and queries
- Develop and support SQL jobs for data imports, exports, and transformations
- Verify database backups (transaction log backups for databases in FULL recovery mode)
- Verify SQL Server jobs
- Ensuring corporate security standards have been applied and maintained
- Perform related and other duties as assigned
REGULATORY
- Ability to obtain racing and/or gaming licenses as required in any jurisdiction where CDI operates. The Gaming industry is highly regulated and as such demands an extensive background check to obtain a license. Must be 21 years of age or older.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
- 2-year degree in IT/IS or other closely related discipline or equivalent experience coupled with industry certifications
- Experience with AWS, Azure or GCP relational database technologies
- Must have 4 years creating, managing and administrating MS SQL Server databases
- Provide database administration and support for SQL Servers at all CDI properties (SQL 2016 and newer)
- Experience with C# / .Net, Powershell
- Experience with Windows systems administration and virtualized compute infrastructure
- Familiar with SQL Encryption (at rest and in transit)
SKILLS and ATTRIBUTES:
- Ability to work a 24x7 on-call rotation on regular, forecasted weeks
- Ability to work certain night/early morning/weekend shifts on an as-needed basis for major infrastructure changes
- Ability to work several marquee events such as the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks
- Effective communication skills (both verbal and written)
- Comfortable with fast paced work environment
- Strong attention to detail and prompt follow-up
- Ability to develop and support SSIS packages for data imports, exports, and transformations
- Ability to construct new reports and support SQL Server Reporting Services environment
- Ability to verify SQL Server SSIS packages
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Extended periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
