SUMMARY

The Virtualization Engineer designs, deploys, and manages virtualization solutions to enhance our organization's infrastructure to ensure high availability, scalability, and performance. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams to integrate cloud and virtualization technologies into core IT initiatives, including disaster recovery, security, and performance optimization. Expertise will be essential in supporting our cloud adoption efforts, driving the automation of system provisioning, and ensuring our virtualized environments can scale to meet the demands of a rapidly growing organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

• Ensure the successful and continued operation of the company’s cloud, compute, storage and hypervisor infrastructure
• Architectural design, development, and implementation of virtualized services
• Deployment and management of physical and virtual server environments
• Management of VLANs and other TCP/IP network related concepts that are used in providing solutions
• Investigate performance issues and resolve within stated SLAs
• Provide Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to stakeholders and business leaders
• Provide technical expertise (both verbal and written) for Incident and Change Management
• Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell, Python, or other scripting languages to streamline tasks and improve efficiency in virtual environment management
• Maintain compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations, conducting regular audits and assessments of virtual infrastructure security
• Participate in on-call rotation for incident management and escalation
• Works appropriate service requests from ticket queue
• Works with vendors to resolve hardware and software issues
• Gather and maintain data for capacity planning and performance analysis of infrastructure
• Stay up to date on emerging technologies and products, including attaining certifications and participation in industry events, as appropriate
• Perform related duties as assigned

REGULATORY:

Ability to obtain racing and/or gaming licenses as required in any jurisdiction where CDI operates. The Gaming industry is highly regulated and as such demands an extensive background check to obtain a license. Must be 21 years of age or older.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

• 4-year degree in IT/IS or other closely related discipline; may consider experience and certifications for degree requirement
• 3 years of experience managing and configuring VMware vSphere, including compute platforms and storage networks
• 3 years of experience working comprehensive projects in VMware environment
• 3 years of experience implementing VLAN technology in an enterprise environment
• 3 years of experience using network analysis, management and performance monitoring tools to plan for growth, diagnose problems and determine root cause
• 3 years writing code, developing scripts or automation for patching, hypervisor management or other administrative actions
• 3 years of experience configuring, monitoring and managing Cisco UCS platform, Pure Storage, F5 Load Balancers, and Cisco WAN/LAN switching & routing products preferred
• Knowledge and experience of solutions and troubleshooting related to the interoperability of compute (blade hardware, vSphere hypervisor, Windows server OS, and Active Directory), SAN, route/switch network, and cloud connections
• Experience working in a CLI environment with PowerShell, Bash or other CLI interpreter
• Current VMware certifications preferred
• Experience preferred designing and building web environments on AWS, which includes working with services like EC2, ELB, RDS, and S3
• Experience with AWS, Azure or GCP preferred
• ITIL v4 and/or Six Sigma certified preferred

SKILLS and ATTRIBUTES:

• Ability to work a 24x7 on-call rotation on regular, forecasted weeks
• Ability to work certain night/early morning/weekend shifts on an as-needed basis for major infrastructure changes
• Ability to work several marquee events such as the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks
• Comfortable with fast paced work environment
• Strong attention to detail and independent ability to follow-up on items as needed
• Strong knowledge of Windows and Linux-based platforms

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Extended periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
• Regular use of a keyboard and mouse for typing and navigating software
• Viewing a computer screen for prolonged periods
• Ability to manipulate paperwork, including filing, sorting, and organizing
• Moving within the office environment to attend meetings, use office equipment, or interact with colleagues
• Occasional lifting of office supplies or paperwork (up to 20 pounds)
• Speaking and listening to colleagues and clients in person, over the phone, or via video conferencing
• Working in a climate-controlled office environment with moderate noise levels

• Working under artificial lighting conditions typical of an office environment, which may include fluorescent or LED lighting
• Role is onsite five days a week at the Louisville, KY CDI headquarters office
