Job Summary:

As a Garden Center Outdoor Associate, you will work in our outdoor plant and retail departments. This will include working in a greenhouse setting taking care of live plants, working in our perennial and annuals yards, as well as assisting customers with all their plant related needs. You will maintain live plant stock by watering, pruning, and deadheading while proactively assisting customers. As an outdoor associate you will be on your feet for an 8-hour shift, you must be able to repetitively stand, walk, bend over, kneel, and lift heavy objects. This position also includes assisting customers with pottery and stone statuary, as well as bagged goods such as soils and mulch. You must be willing to work in all weather conditions, this could include rain, and high heat. In this position you will spend time unloading large truck deliveries of live plants multiple times per week; in doing this you must be able to lift items of at least 30lbs overhead.

Our Ideal Candidate:

Our Ideal candidate for this position would be passionate about gardening and the horticulture/floriculture industry. This person would ideally have worked in a horticulture or floriculture related field, such as a garden center, commercial greenhouse, or went to school in relation these industries. We are looking for people who have a self-starter attitude but are capable of taking direction. This person would work well with co-workers and work well in a fast-paced customer-centric environment with a high traffic of customers during our peak season. The person best fit for this position would be a hard worker, some who is determined, goal oriented, and is resilient in all working conditions. This person would also be outgoing, friendly, principled and reliable.

Requirements:

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Desired B.S. or A.S. in Horticulture, Floriculture, Biology or related field.
• Knowledge of Garden Center Plant material selections (ex. Annuals, Perennials and Trees and Shrubs.) watering, disease prevention, and growing conditions.
• Excellent customer service skills
• Ability to communicate with customers, associates, and managers effectively.
• Be able to work in all weather conditions including high heat.
• Be able to lift weight/move items of up to 50lbs
• Positive and 'Get it Done' Attitude.
• Eagerness to stay up to date on trends and products in the garden center or nursery industry.
• Ability to stay physically active during the 8-hour shift.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends, holidays, and overtime, as necessary.

Reports to: Annuals Department Manager / Perennials Department Manager / Operations Manager

Salary: $15-18 an hour. Pay is subject to experience.

Schedule: Seasonal Part-time (minimum of 3 full 9-5 shifts per week) or Seasonal Full-time (5 days per week), 9 a.m.-5 p.m. This position is seasonal, April through October. Working one weekend day is mandatory during peak season (May-July).

Start Date: This position is seasonal and does not start till mid-April unless otherwise specified.

Location: All work must be performed onsite at Churchill’s Garden Center in Exeter, NH. Remote work is not an option.

• Retail POS 1 years (Preferred)

Ability to Relocate:

• Exeter, NH: Relocate before starting work (Required)
