The Energy, Infrastructure, & Transition (“EIT”) practice provides investment banking services to targeted clients in the infrastructure, renewable and thermal power, utility, midstream, and upstream energy clients headquartered throughout North America, Europe, Latin America, Asia, and Australia. We primarily support our clients through a variety of transactions including M&A (buy-side and sell-side), capital structure advisory, construction and term financings, refinancings, strategic advisory / alternatives mandates, and public-private partnerships. The team’s coverage mandate is focused in the following industries: Infrastructure, Renewable Energy, and Regulated Utilities. What You’ll Be Doing The EIT Associate will work with Managing Directors, Executive Directors, Directors, Associates, and Analysts to continue to expand the presence of CIBC World Markets in the project finance, infrastructure and power markets. The individual will provide financial modeling, analytical, structuring, research and transaction support and will assist with the execution of transactions and advisory projects such as: mergers & acquisitions, divestitures, equity and debt financings, strategic advisory/alternatives projects and full capital structure solution projects. The individual will be expected to maintain an awareness of our clients, industry, regulatory issues and relevant economic/political trends. A team approach to executing coverage and financing assignments is designed to provide progressive on the job training. How You’ll Succeed Research and analyze information and draft infrastructure and power proposals in conjunction with Directors, Executive Directors and/or Managing Directors Conduct financial analysis, both for existing clients and on new mandates/opportunities Develop financial models, determining the assumptions and methodology Establish and maintain contact with clients throughout the due diligence process to obtain/provide information and advice, conduct interviews and relay information regarding the process and CIBC’s requirements Assists in analyzing, structuring, and negotiating new M&A and related transactions Train and mentor Analysts and Associates in financial modeling and investment banking best practices Liaise with other units of CIBC in preparing infrastructure and utility and power reviews and proposals for clients’ financing needs Prepare industry and financial analysis to determine the feasibility of potential financing and M&A transactions Organize presentations to potential clients, assisting in the development of presentation information Perform industry comparative analysis Conduct industry research to help the group better understand developments in the infrastructure and power spaces Compliance Requirements & Responsibilities As an employee of CIBC, the incumbent must comply with all applicable CIBC and Line of Business policies, standards, guidelines and controls. You can demonstrate experience with: Successful candidates must exhibit CIBC’s values of trust, teamwork, and accountability Relevant undergraduate degree (Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering or related discipline) preferred An interest in the infrastructure, energy (renewable, storage, and conventional), or other related sectors, along with a strong interest in and knowledge of financial markets 4 years of relevant experience in a banking, investment management or equivalent institution is preferred Strong technical, computational and quantitative skills Excellent analytical ability including demonstrated knowledge of valuation techniques and practices Excellent understanding of financial statements, credit analysis and accounting principles Extremely dedicated and motivated individual with high career aspirations. Must be capable of assuming significantly increased levels of responsibility within short time frames Excellent interpersonal, presentation, oral and written communication skills in order to convey complex factual and conceptual information to others and promote the interests of CIBC Well-developed organizational and time management skills in order to respond to shifting priorities on several simultaneous projects Demonstrated job commitment including a willingness to work, as well as personal flexibility and adaptability in order to meet client requirements Proven ability to pay close attention to detail and multi-task under tight deadlines Superior knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and the ability to quickly and independently learn a variety of industry software platforms Series 7, 63 or 79 equivalent is advantageous You embrace and champion change.
