STRATEGIC BUSINESS UNIT DESCRIPTION
The Capital Markets arm of CIBC provides integrated capital markets products, investment banking advisory services, corporate lending and top-ranked research to corporate, government, institutional and retail clients around the world. Our goal is to be the leading Capital Markets franchise in Canada and the lead relationship bank for key clients globally. CIBC Capital Markets consists of three lines of business; Global Markets, Global Investment Banking and Corporate Banking.
JOB PURPOSE
Planning, organizing and developing research products and actionable trade ideas; contributing to the brand of CIBC Capital Markets with the objective of attaining benchmark status in the industry; generating revenue for the firm from sales and trading, and underwriting. These objectives are accomplished by producing publications and ideas providing an analysis and summary of a wide variety of current and forecasted corporate investment information, for distribution to internal staff, borrowers and lenders. The role will work closely with sales teams to assist in the marketing of the product to increase market share and grow the client base. This will also increase CIBC’s risk profile in this space.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Develop and market trade ideas to reach target market constituents
- Consult with marketers to actively promote recommendations in a very competitive, time-sensitive environment
- Ensure marketers and clients are well informed in respect to the desk’s strategic direction and approaches
- Be a key resource on regulations, processes, and procedures governing Global Markets and other areas of CIBC
- Meet or exceed P&L target
- Monitor competitor activities, market conditions and report relevant developments to Head of trading desk and other CIBC Capital Markets colleagues to jointly develop profitable client opportunities across other lines of business to maximize client coverage
- Build and maintain a network of strategic relationships of financial service, syndication groups, financial intermediaries and market constituents to gather competitive intelligence, trends and general economic data
- Work effectively within CIBC’s corporate governance practices and policies (Risk Management, Finance, Human Resources, Legal and Compliance) to ensure compliance with CIBC’s Governance and Control Framework and regulatory requirements
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Expert knowledge of trading and products
- Good macro-economic understanding of the relevant economies
- Degree educated, with at least 15 years’ experience in desk’s specific area of Trading.
- Strong knowledge of financial markets, credit and market risk in order to effectively structure trades and to evaluate risk.
- Strong interpersonal and impact and influence skills in order to capitalize on business opportunities.
- Demonstrated commitment to client satisfaction.
- In-depth understanding of governance and regulatory requirements

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of $400,000 for the New York, NY market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which also may include a discretionary bonus component.
