Position: Memory Care Director 

Reports to: Executive Director

FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Scope:  The Memory Care Director is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and management of the Memory Care program in the senior living facility. This role involves leading and coordinating care for residents with Alzheimer's, dementia, or other memory impairments, ensuring they receive high-quality care that enhances their quality of life. The director will manage staff, develop care plans, and collaborate with families and medical professionals to deliver personalized care. 


Key Responsibilities:

 Supports the mission, vision, and goals of the organization, upholding and promoting company culture and vision. 

Leadership and Staff Management:

  • Hire, train, and supervise Memory Care staff, including caregivers, nurses, and aides.
  • Foster a team-oriented, compassionate environment that promotes positive relationships between staff and residents.
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels based on resident needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing training and development opportunities for the team.
Resident Care Oversight:
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans for each resident, including assessing needs and adjusting care as required.
  • Oversee daily operations of the Memory Care unit, ensuring that residents' physical, emotional, and social needs are met.
  • Monitor and evaluate residents’ conditions and make adjustments to care plans as necessary.
  • Ensure safety and security protocols are followed, including emergency procedures, fall prevention, and supervision.
Family and Resident Relations:
  • Serve as a liaison between residents, families, and medical staff, providing regular updates on resident status and care.
  • Offer guidance and support to families coping with the challenges of dementia or Alzheimer's care.
  • Lead family meetings and support groups to foster community and provide education regarding memory impairments and caregiving strategies.
Compliance and Quality Assurance:
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations concerning Memory Care and dementia services.
  • Oversee regular audits, inspections, and assessments of the Memory Care unit to ensure a high standard of care is maintained.
  • Develop and implement best practices for care and resident engagement, ensuring continuous improvement.

 Hands-On Care:

  • Provide direct care services to residents, including assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding.
  • Assist with mobility, transfers, and positioning of residents as needed.
  • Ensure that residents are comfortable and safe, responding promptly to any physical or emotional needs.
Program Development and Management:
  • Design and implement engaging activities tailored to residents with memory impairments that promote cognitive, emotional, and physical well-being.
  • Regularly assess and update the Memory Care program to incorporate the latest research, trends, and best practices in dementia care.
  • Promote a person-centered approach to care, ensuring that residents’ preferences and choices are respected.
  •  Attend all required all staff meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned, and which relate to the success of the community and the care, comfort, and happiness of our residents.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • LPN required
  • At least 2 years of experience in a leadership role within senior living, memory care, or healthcare, with a focus on Alzheimer’s and dementia care. 
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Deep knowledge of dementia-related disorders and best practices in memory care.
  • Ability to manage budgets and resources effectively.
  • Compassionate, patient, and understanding approach to working with residents and families.
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Licenses: Assisted Living Activities certification, if required by State.
  • Must be in possession of, or have the ability to obtain, a valid state driver’s license. Travel may be required, as needed.

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Walk/Stand – must be able to continuously walk and stand.
  • Environment Condition – must be able to perform work both inside and outside.
  • Sit – sit infrequently.
  • Lift - constantly 0-10 pounds, frequently 11 – 50 pounds, occasionally 51 – 100 pounds.
  • Carry - constantly 0-10 pounds, frequently 11 – 50 pounds, occasionally 51 – 100 pounds.
  • Push - constantly 0-10 pounds, frequently 11 – 50 pounds, occasionally 51 – 100 pounds.
  • Climb – must be able to climb stairs on a frequent basis, with the opportunity to utilize the? elevator as an alternate resource if available.
  • Bend – must be able to bend at the waist, knees, hips and spine on a frequent basis; may require frequently manipulating weights of 25 pounds or more.
  • Squat – must be able to squat on a frequent basis to reach below the knee, may require lifting of?50 pounds or less.
  • Twist or rotate – must be able to twist or rotate occasionally at the trunk, hips, knees, and neck, manipulating weights of 25 pounds or more.
  • Reach– must be able to reach on a frequent basis. May occasionally reach overhead, requiring manipulation of weight of 10 pounds or less, and below waist manipulating weight of 25 pounds or more.
  • Sensory Vision – must be able to read clearly with or without corrective lenses
  • Hear - Must be able to hear telephone, audible alarms, bells and signals related to resident safety with or without hearing devices.
  • Speech/Language – must have strong command of English sufficient to read and write and interpret administration information.

Salary : $77,968 - $85,000
