Cimarron is seeking a Flight Software Systems Integration Engineer to support the Mars Ascent Vehicle Integrated System (MAVIS) program in Huntsville, AL. MAVIS is a critical part of NASA’s Mars Sample Return campaign, designed to launch collected Martian samples back to Earth.
The current MAVIS program effort is funded through the Preliminary Design Review (PDR), scheduled for June 2025. While future phases are contingent, the anticipated path—under a typical scenario—includes progression to the Critical Design Review (CDR) in 2026, followed by manufacturing, integration, and test activities in 2027 and beyond.

Key Duties
- Integrate embedded real-time flight software, ground control software, and avionics systems within the MAVIS architecture.
- Develop the Command and Telemetry (C&T) Database for MAV mission operations.
- Ensure consistency and accuracy of command definitions, telemetry points, and data formats.
- Ensure traceability between software requirements, verification artifacts, and test results.
- Review the MAV-level Software Development and Integration Plans.
- Support Software Readiness Reviews (SRR), Integration Readiness Reviews (IRR), and Test Readiness Reviews (TRR).
Required Skills, Experience, and Education :
- Due to facility security requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for consideration at this time.
- 5 or more years of experience with flight software (FSW), embedded systems, or avionics integration.
- Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and embedded software development.
- Familiarity with Hardware in the Loop software integration environments.
- Familiarity with software verification & validation (V&V) processes.
- Familiarity with Software Integration Planning and Software Development Planning.
- Experience working in an Agile Software Development Process.
- Experience supporting major software reviews such as SRR, IRR, and TRR.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Prior Experience working with flight software for launch vehicles or planetary exploration systems.
- Knowledge of GNC Software, Mission & Fault Management Software, Command and Data Handling (C&DH) software systems.
- Strong proficiency in C, C , or Python for software testing and debugging.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Systems engineering experience in space systems, launch vehicles, or deep-space missions.
