What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Planner position at Cimarron Software?
Cimarron is seeking experienced Engineering Planners to support the Project Management Office (PMO) for the Mars Ascent Vehicle Integrated System (MAVIS) program in Huntsville, AL. MAVIS is a critical component of NASA’s Mars Sample Return campaign, tasked with launching collected Martian samples back to Earth. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and reporting on the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) while ensuring seamless vertical integration and cross-linking of schedules across the program.
The current MAVIS program effort is funded through the Preliminary Design Review (PDR), scheduled for June 2025. While future phases are contingent, the anticipated path—under a typical scenario—includes progression to the Critical Design Review (CDR) in 2026, followed by manufacturing, integration, and test activities in 2027 and beyond.
Key Duties:
- Manage and report on the program Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) status.
- Perform vertical integration of schedules and oversee complex cross-linking of associated files.
- Identify schedule gaps and risk areas early to support proactive program planning.
- Collaborate closely with Planning and Program Management as a trusted advisor.
- Work effectively within tight schedule constraints to support program success.
Required Skills, Experience, and Education:
- Due to facility security requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for consideration at this time.
- Ability to develop and maintain compliant integrated program schedules that accurately validate the flow, budget, and resources required to execute contractual scope and overarching program strategy.
- Experience with a planning tool (e.g., Microsoft Project or Open Plan).
- Familiarity with Earned Value Management (EVM) concepts (such as critical path analysis, cost/schedule integration, performance metrics, program start-up activities).
- Experience managing Integrated Master Schedules (IMS) for complex aerospace or defense programs.
- Strong understanding of critical path analysis, risk management, and schedule integration.
- Ability to communicate effectively with technical and leadership teams.
- Bachelor's degree and 5 or more years of related experience.
Desired Skills, Experience, and Education:
- Previous experience supporting NASA, DoD, or aerospace development programs.
- Knowledge of MAVIS or Mars Sample Return missions.
- Expertise in earned value management (EVM) principles.
